With the new laws that have come into effect today, I was curious if anyone has an idea on how this affects military/AR-style rimfires like the Mossberg 715T, SR-22, and other similar firearms. I didn't see anything in the new laws that prohibited the 715T or SR-22 specifically, and I didn't see anything prohibiting the use of AR-style stocks on other firearms, but it's possible I may have missed something. I've currently got an RP Evolution stock on my 10/22, and I don't want to be stopped by some overzealous officer or citizen because it looks similar to the newly prohibited firearms.

If you’re gopher hunting with a 715t, you were out there anyway. Only difference now is you’re out with a gun that looks like something that’s prohibited instead of something that was restricted. Shoot responsibly, store and transport properly and you have no more risk of being stopped than anyone else - “overzealous” or not.

As for the rest...yeah. Too early to say, don’t borrow trouble when none’s needed.

This was just a first step. The bans will come. There were multiple .22lr restricted rifles on the list. The most notible being the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22.

Hmm, I didn’t even catch that when I looked; good eye. I’m curious whether there will be revisions/additions over the coming weeks/months, whether the CFC will take it into their hands to interpret the spirit of the law to include other firearms, or whether this will “only” affect military-style 22’s that were previously restricted (and can thereby be tracked). I feel this puts the 10/22 AR-style stocks in a weird place right now due to them using hardware designed for the AR. I’m curious to see how this pans out over the coming weeks.

Makes sense; I appreciate the input. My main concern is that my primary shooting takes place at ranges rather than public/private land, and I’m not sure how the employees and other patrons would feel about something that resembles a prohibited firearm. I’ll have to call the range and ask before bringing it out to confirm.

The SR-22 is just a chassis. The receiver is still a 10/22 receiver. I haven't read everything fully yet so I can't comment myself, but is there any mention of any stocks, components or accessories being banned as well? If not, then we're good to go as long as the 10/22 stays off the list. Be prepared to get hassled for it though.

Just remember when elections come we need, as all law abiding gun owners to vote LIBERAL CUZ THEY ARE LOOKING AFTER LEGAL GUN OWNERS IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY. Justin Trudeau is a visionary leading us to a new safer future. HAHAHA if you are stupid enough to vote for this warped little queer pot smoker again, you don't deserve the right to own any firearm. That's all I got to say about that!!!

In the list is the armi jager ap74. Back in the early 90"s when the first round of laws came in that rifle was non restricted. Its a AR15 lookalike but shares absolutely no parts with a AR. So it was NR,then they changed it to restricted and now lumped it in with the AR category under banned assault style firearms. Yup,every Seal team uses them!!

If they do prohibit it, just buy a mossberg 702 plinkster and use the 715 clam shell. It should look and function the same, right?

Seriously? Your gun is legal, you need to make sure you don't hurt anyone's feelings by using your legally owned property at the facility you pay to use? Anybody wants to stick their nose in tell them you are aware of the laws and comply and to mind their own business.

There's a whole bunch of Mitchell, S&W, etc. .22LR non-restricteds (instantly prohibited, now) on that banned list. Just sayin'.....

...and when asked on CTV Power and Politics why 22lr's were banned, Blair replied all the rifles on the list are centerfire. Blair is intentionally spreading lies for the unknowing public to lap up.

The main component that was specifically prohibited were the AR15 uppers which were previous just an unregulated part. TC

Those .22's were already restricted as they are actual AR receivers with .22 uppers... although I didn't see the lakeside razorback belt fed .22on there. LOL

If only AR uppers were banned, then the SR-22 is good to go.

Yup, you would think... as the SR-22 is not an AR upper, it's just a metal wrap that encases the 10-22 receiver, much like the mossberg plastic thingy that's basically held together with wood screws LOL

The S&W MP15-22 is not compatible with AR-15 uppers or lowers. The pins are in the wrong place and the lower has a faux buffer tube. It was restricted as being AR-15 styled.
