Leica Glass?

Anyone running a Leica scope?

Kinda looking at maybe picking up the PRS 5-30 for the long range rifle and maybe an Ampulus 1-6 for the hunting rifle a bit further down the road.

Not a whole lot on these, but what I can find seems good. Some first hand remarks would be nice though.

I have experience with Leica binoculars, I can tell you they are beautiful, expensive and crystal clear. Never an issue.

Unfortunately I do not have any experience with Leica scopes, I can only assume they will be as nice as their binos.

I've got an Amplus 6 3-18x44, the glass is very good to my eyes. YMMV

I love the glass on the Leica. I have the magnus and an older ERi. The only issue I've ever had was with an older ER where the exposed turret was super mushy and could get rotated when carrying. It is no longer an issue on newer ones and the turrets are protected and work great.

By far my favorite hunting scope is the Leica magnus 1.7-10x42.

running amplus 6 in 2.5-15x50 for over a year now - my experience has been good from 25 to 500yds - suggest to wait for post boxing day, just before new years timing as (in my experience) that's when there might be promotional pricing of some significance (ie >20%)... hth

I figured the glass quality would be outstanding as Leica is one of the most renown optics companies.

I had an older ER5. Excellent glass. Excellent glass, amazingly clear and crisp image. Tracking on the variable was excellent.

For the price, it is not that impressive with the performance. I would pick a Zeiss S3 6-36 or Vortex Razar Gen 3 6-36

By reputution they are absolute top-tier glass-wise - with Swaro, Zeiss, etc.

I have a rangefinder, but I don't think that's the best example of great glass.

I had the Amplus you mentioned, great scope. Check out trapper Johns which is west of Valleyview, Alberta, they had the best price by far when I bought mine.

I've had one of the ER scopes for years. Great glass but also excellent internals. Tracks as it should even after some good falls.
