i would like to shoot my tikka 6.5 55 at 500 metres. my elevation is marked to plus 16 moa i think but when i set the turret zero to p.o.i. at 100 metres i run out of elevation at 12 on the dial when i try to dial for longer distance. is this normal? the dial stops as if its run out of adjustment room inside. i think this will not quite take me to 500 without holdover. its a leica er 3.5 to 14 x 42 with the quick adjust style turrets.

You have a given amount of total adjustment in the scope. You have used some of it to get your rifle zeroed at 100m. Therefore you do not have enough left to dial a full 16MOA up as is marked on your dials. You can employ a canted base so that your 100m zero occurs much lower in the scopes internal elevation adjustment range.
