So I've recently purchased a Leica 1600 rangefinder off the EE. It appeared to work when I got it but it struggled to get anything past 1000y. It has since been continuously deteriorating, thinking it might be a weak battery, I replaced it. Now this morning I had a chance to run it side by side with another one that a friend just bought and his blows mine away!

This leads me to my question, does anyone know how the Leica warranty works? Is it transferable? Just doing a little digging before I get told to pound it during a call to Leica.

Leica range finder warranty repair facility.
New Jersey

I just called them and they said that it applies to the original owner.
They mentioned that most owners register them at the time of sale
with the card supplied.
If yours hasn't been registered, ????
One have one foot in the mud now, might be time to jump in with both feet
and have it repaired?

I had a range finder like yours, it was past the warranty period of two years, but it worked like yours, so filled out the repair sheet found on the website, sent it via trackable mail, 3 weeks later a brand new one showed up at my door free of charge. Never did talk with anyone.

Send it to Leica in the US and just be honest with them, I'm sure they'll make it right. I've gotten parts from them for scopes and binoculars that were well past warranty, they just sent them to me no questions asked.
Kindermann is the Canadian repair facility, but I don't think they repair rangefinders or other sports optics.
