Leitner-Wise • 308 project

yes the .308 is still on its way

you haven't heard anything about it because we are busy building guns, and working on the .308 project and other projects.

for the .308 there will be a new lower, upper, bolt carrier and barrel extension.

we're intending it to take the DPMS/SR25 mags simply because those mags are already in the mil. system, have a part # & quite frankly, trying to design then get a propriety mag built can be the kiss of death to a project

be going with much smaller, but stronger bolt for the .308, all in all it will weight about half of the AR10 bolt and will be stronger. this means there will be no retrofitting for the AR10, unless you get a carrier (which we WILL NOT BE MAKING) that will take our new bolt.

The LW 308 uses it's own upper and lower receivers and when you see it you'll understand why we did it. It moves the .308 AR forward in a way that hasn't occured since the original AR-10 from old Armalite., it will be painfuilly clear why we decided not to base it on any existing .308 AR design.

another nonrestricted 308 rifle?

AR variant...it'll be restricted unfortunately

These things become AR variants only when, and because people SAY they are AR variants .... so if you want it to be not considered an AR variant, STFU!

The highlighted part of P0WERWAGON's post makes it clear that the people producing this product ... the only people who know anything about it right now, do not feel it is an AR variant ... what makes you think you know better than them?

If the RCMP says that Dlask PAC 5 is an AR variant then you are fooling yourself and anyone else that reads your advice on firearms classifications.

Because I know the laws/policies of our land better than they do!

This statment here says at one point that it is a 308AR and then they dont base it on any exsisting AR design...you think RCMP wont be inclined to restrict it? We will have to wait and see pics and specs to be able to get a better idea.

Dont bite the messanger's head off, you know full well that all the grieving that we do on a classification will be for naught unless there is a large amount of money ready to back a fight in the courts. So until then feel free to PM me and I will give you my background and my reasoning for my answers or atleast try and be a little more civil next time.

.308 in non-restricted? Sign me up! If it is eventually classed as another variant, I'll wait for something else like a SCAR-H or something else clean-sheet.

If LW is indeed binning the designs out there and just using the mags from DPMS and inspiration from Eugene Stoner, and otherwise doing their own thing; then there is certainly a chance that it might be considered an non-variant and therefore be unrestricted. It will be interesting to see how much parts commonality there is between existing systems and the new LW.

LW is an American company..I highly doubt they will jump through all the hoops to export a few rifles to Canada.

well 48th highlander is a canadian that works there. i do believe there was something going on about roster33 importing some piston uppers from him. besides they are dedicated to the civie market, not the military. money is money to them i'm guessing.

I'm not saying that you are wrong. I'm saying that you are supporting their position if they do classify it as restricted. Is that really the side you want to take? Perhaps we should stick to pointing out the differences from an AR, rather than the similarities, when any of us know enough about the product to speak of either.

I don't care what your background is ... pessimism will not help us in any way.

Sounds great and I hope they do but when companies like SWFA won't export scopes to Canada I'd be very surprised if the market here will justify it.

Sounds quite promising to me for the following reasons - different upper, gas system, bolt and most importantly lower. Correct me if I'm wrong but that sounds less like a variant than some of the other stuff out there.

I met Paul Leitner-Wise at the SHOT show in Feb.
In fact, the guy I was traveling with was invited to a shoot at the LV Police range. During that time, Paul mentioned to me that he had lived in Toronto for about two years, many years ago.
