I'm wondering if there is a way to lengthen the mag box length on a 700 BDL style SA?

The best shooting loads for my rifle are touching the lands, which is almost .100" longer than mag length, and I really would prefer to feed this rifle from the magazine.

If it's not possible, do the (pricey!) conversions such as V-bull or HS Precision have longer magazines than the factory ones?

Cut the magazine box just back of the forward two corners (on the long side of the box). Form a new end plate from sheet metal, about 1.2" longer then what you started with. TIG weld the two sides together. Epoxy a piece of Delrin (or something similar) to the front of the follower to keep it in place in the box. Cut your stock to match the new longer box. You will probably have to open up the feed ramp a little as well on the receiver. I've done this on a couple of 600s now, it's a little finicky to do, but works ok. - dan

I barreled a short 700 to 284 Winny for "cccan" that has a 3-1/4" mag box. I didn't do it but I know who did. I have another box here that "cccan" stretched for me to about 3-1/8", I think, haven't found the right place to use it yet. I'm told there are also longer boxes available from some outfit called Wyatt's in the US. The reciever requires milling and the bolt stop needs to be altered to gain bolt travel. "cccan" made a new bolt stop from scratch. I've heard that stretched mag boxes are easier to set up as an ADL.
