Took my Nightforce 50mm objective to the camera shop today to try and find a lens cap from a lens that will fit in the objective. Nikon 58mm did but the Cannon 58mm did not (too big) Nikon fit perfect, now need to find one that fits the rear eye piece and then figure out how to attach them to the optic. Should give the glass some excellent protection against the elements. Ordered one from HongKong for .99 cents, free shipping, will see how it works, Nikon wanted $15. Thinking a camera filter may not be a terrible idea either to protect the objective lens. Just sharing my thoughts, maybe someone has a lot of experience with this type of thing and can chime in.

I put protective filters on all of my scopes. 52/62mm super clear Hoya protective filters on smaller calibers, and B+W brass ring filters on larger calibers. They protect the front element from dust any physical damage. Regular cleaning also could scratch the coating of the glass, so it is a lot less expensive to replace a filter, than the front element of the scope.

arctic warrior, brilliant idea, and don't think many folks do it, i don't but will ASAP, next trip to town, hauling in the optics to find the right size filters, makes sense, a lot cheaper to replace and clean than an optic lens. All camera owners do it and their tools see easier work

Butler Creek makes flip up caps that will fit, I even got one for my NXS with a 56mm objective.

I put the Butler Creek "Blizzard" flip caps on all my scopes. (Eventually - Wholesale Sports has trouble keeping some sizes in stock.)

I realize buttler creek makes flip up caps but ALL of mine broke, didn't like the quality at all so looking for alternatives, like the leupold alumina covers but of course they only fit leupolds

Did you ever find the ones you were looking for a while back? Maybe the ones you speak of above are those...

Just curious is all.

Yeah many thanks for the offer back then. I did appreciate it. I searched all over and actually found one at ATRS. Brownells didnt even have them. Its the largest objective size they sell and nobody seems to stock them bigger than the 50s. The eyepiece is a common size. Fitment is pretty good.

For my Leupolds I have a thier factory filter kit, comes with a UV, orange and yellow filter. Its ok, but abit pricey. Screws on normally like a sunshade and doesnt change the scope OD.
