Can you buy after market flip-open lens covers or do you have to buy a scope which comes with them?
Silly question which popped into my head at....4:57AM:eek:

butler creek flip ups are your best bang for the buck, most stores stock them and the catalog / mail order places defiantly stock them, they are usually $10 per side and make sure to order them when you order the scope because fitting them after the fact is a pain unless you bring the rifle to the gun store. (Sizing them is a problem for me.... easier to take gun with me)

Butler creeks can be had in see thru or solid black flip ups..... I suggest the solid black ones unless a super quick un prepared for shot is neccesary....

if you really want to spend money Leupold has brand name flip ups to now but they run over $60 a pair.

Butler creek caps are great. get the ones with the red release thumb tab on the eye piece.

nobody likes the ones with translucent lenses. The opaque ones are the way to go.

I've had butler creek and some cover called blizzard, they were crap, but the Butler Creek ones worked great.

The Blizzards are made by Butler Creek. I use the Blizzards exclusively and find them great for hunting in wet weather. You can track your animal with the covers on until your are ready to shoot. Some folks shoot with the covers on. Don’t see anything bad about them.

The thing that I didn't like about them was that the lenses kept falling out as a result of the snap ring being disloged by my clothing while slung. That and the rubber cup was a loose fit on my scope even though it was the size recomended on the chart. When I would go to flip the front with my thumb I would end up pushing the whole thing almost off, obscuring my vision. I went to an old bikini cover.

I thought the blizzard ones were made by uncle mikes, could be wrong, ehem has happened before.Be that as it may, the ones with the red push button fit a whole lot better!

butler creek and uncle mikes are one and the same company now....

your loose caps would piss anyone off, that is why i recommend taking the scope or gun to the store and have them fitted on there. you want them so tight they are a ##### to get on...... and if you ever sell the scope the caps are going with it because they are a ##### to get off.

True North:

Put 1/4" wide strip of PVC tape around the outside of the scope will ensure a tight fit.

By the way the Blizzards are made by Butler Creek.
