Leopold VX-2 Ultralight

Hello,

I was looking at Leopold's VX-2 Ultralight scope. Have anyone mounted one on a 7.62mm NATO caliber rifle or something comparable like a .303 ? Any thought about that scope ?

Fairly short tube. May require extension rings. Was going to put one on my savage 99 in .308 which has Leupold standard base. Was too short and I did not want to use extension rings.

There are a few different Vx-2 Ultralights, so I guess the answer depends on which model you are thinking about. I can't speak to the variable power Ultralight line, but I have a FX-2 Ultralight 2.5x20 on my 308 Win. Tikka T3 Battue Lite. The scope is mounted on a QD mount, with a second identical mount that has a FX-II 4x33 on it. The Ultralight is definitely lighter, great when walking in bush if I choose to put it on (the 4x goes on in open areas.) I don't see any difference in optical quality between these two, or with other Leupolds I have. In other words, my experience with my Ultralight is positive. Your mileage may vary... .

I have the 2X7 variable one on a super lightweight Remington Titanium in .300WSM. No problem at all.

Not light enough to justify the narrower field of view, shorter eye relief and comically small size. I sold mine and ended up with a VX3 2.5-8, its a few ounces heavier but much nicer to use.
