Savage 12 VLP
Tikka T3 Varmint Stainless
Rem 700 SFV
Rem 700 SPS (varmint)

I would like all honest opinions good or bad
thanks for your thoughts

Those all seem like good choices. Do what you feel is best for your self.

From what I'v read here on CGN i would put them in this order

-Tikka -Smooth action and out of box accurasy
-Savage -accurate, priced right and accu triiger
-Rem -a 700 is a 700 enough said.

Personaly im looking for a Savage for a dedicated coyote gun.

thanks
so far Im quite happy signed on makes you feel like your not the only gun lover outside of the US

What were you going to use it for and in what caliber? Consider doing yourself a favor and consider that if you intend to mount a scope on it, the quality of your scope should be your first priority... then consider what you can spend on the rifle afterwards. Don't make the mistake of spending all your money on a nice rifle and then try to achieve satisfying results with a cheap $300 scope

I think I'd lean towards a Savage - great value, accutrigger is nice, and if you are inclined, lots of aftermarket pieces to spend you dough on. I have two Savages, just got a Tikka T3, smooth action but have not yet stretched it's legs.

No opinion on Rem.....

as for a scope I was leaning towards the bushnell elite 4200 6x-24x 50mm. Thanks though guys for your imput.

Either Savy 10FP or 12FV you can't go wrong accuracy is top notch for factory :D

myself have 10FP and love her :D, looking for 12FV for small game and plinking

ps. Tik-tac does have a butter-like action, Remi is accurate but you'll soon need gunsmith to do all the mods :)

and don't cheap out on scope and base/rings, no matter how accurate the rifle is if your POI moves after every shot, it gets pointless

TVS in 6.5X55 It does everything very well and you can even shoot to 1000 yards all day long with it.

Then its a toss-up between Remington and Savage. Both produce excellent rifles, with the edge on future pimp-my-ride potential going to Remington.

Everyone has a certain rifle they will like
and opinions on all of them will vary.
I was in your shoes last year in picking my first centre fire rifle.
I read a lot of good articles about the Savage VLP,so I bought
one,in .223,sight unseen.
I am more than pleased with this rifle.
Mind you,it is just for shooting off the bench at my range.
It is solid and feels great to hold and shoot.
If you're looking for a rifle to carry around,it's just way too heavy.
I was very impressed with the accuracy of this gun.
I like the accutrigger too.
I love the fact,I can shoot it right out of the box and really don,t feel the need to spend extra bucks to have it smithed for a lighter trigger or whatever.
I'd buy this gun again.

As far as I know this scope is a great entry level scope for LR. I plan to get one myself. I have heard a few complaints regarding the amount of elevation adjustment and the thickness of the reticule but for the price I'd say It's a good choice if it fits your budget. Just make sure you get a base with a 20MOA cant.

As for the rifle any of them will work it comes down to what you want and like. With regards to accuracy I think it is more important that you work up a good load, all of them will shoot good if you find the right load.

If you plan to do work on the gun or change out parts the rem might be a better choice. A lot of stuff can be done to it and lots of aftermarket stuff around. Very proven action but unless you do the work yourself it can cost a bit to accurise.

Tikka and Savage are quickly catching up with aftermarket stuff and according to a lot of the guys shooting them they need less work to accurise to begin with.

I say get the gun that feels right for you, work up a load and see how it shoots. If it does what you want great, if not put some work into it. I think no matter which one you go with things will be the same.

I've owned all three brands you mentioned. heres my opinion:

accuracy, savage = tikka > reminton
build quality(craftmanship), tikka >>>>>remington>savage
action smoothness, tikka>>remington>savage
trigger, tikka>savage>>>remington
factory plastic stock, tikka=remington>>savage

I would buy a savage if I were to change barrel very often.
I would buy a remington if I were to build a precision rig. it has large after market part support.
I currently have the tikka, I am going to rebarrel it with a 6BR to get a light weight target/hunting rig.

I have two remington 700vs. 1 in .223 and one that I had rebarreled from .308 to 6BR. I think they are both great. The .223 has shot 200 yd 5 shot groups under 1/2 inch and the .308 did the same at 100yds and is doing the 1/2 inch thing at 200yds which is the limit of our range. Both have Weaver scopes a 6-24 on the .223 and a fixed 36 on the 6mm. Both have been great repeatable scopes but hope for something better some day.
