ITS 3 GUN TIME IN LETHBRIDGE!!

General Match Info:

Entry fee is $40
Everyone provides their own ammunition, there will be ammo for sale at the event.
Setup will be September 5 in the afternoon and evening.
The match will be held Saturday September 6
Registration will begin at 8:00 am and end at 9:30 am
A Safety meeting will be held with all participants from 9:30 till 10:00
We will start the match at 10:00 and end before 5:00. (depends on the number of participants)
Participants will be organized into shooting "squads" and will shoot the courses as assigned.
Lunch will be included in the entry fee. Probably subs, juice and water.
Takedown will be Saturday evening.

We have received permission - for this event only - to allow the use of TANNERITE on the Range within designated areas. We have a sponsor who has graciously agreed to provide it for sale on match day and perhaps include it on one of the stages.

Sponsor Info:
This year we will be joined by a few of the wonderful businesses in the area. They want to give back to all of us who look after them all year by designing stages and providing prizes.

Although we will probably have one or two more this is the list of participating sponsors thus far:

Wholesale Sports
The Quarter Master
Section 8 Sports
Texaco Express
Country Landscape Maintenance and Irrigation
ActionCOACH Business Coaching

IF YOU WANT TO HELP!
Other Sponsors:
All types of door prizes, participation prizes, youth prizes or grand prizes are welcome. Having something to take home helps to make the event fun, and remember who the sponsor was long after shooting day.
Volunteer time is vital
If you wish to make a cash donation to help offset the cost of the equipment, youth program or to the general event please contact me directly.

Range Officers:
We will need at least 7-10 LFGA Range Officers for the event.
Must be at the range Friday Evening for Course Familiarization and may shoot the course then if desired.
Must be able to oversee stages all day Saturday to qualify for free entry.
Range Officers donating their time to be ROs for the event will be exempt from the entry fee. They are earning their way in

Other volunteers are very welcome to help where and how they can with stage setup, running the registration table, stage disassembly, etc. if you would like to help please do not hesitate to contact me.

WHAT IS 3 GUN?
3-gun gets its name from the fact that you use three different types of firearms over the course of the competition: a shotgun, a rifle, and a pistol. You score points by hitting designated targets, which include clay pigeons, cardboard silhouettes, steel targets of varying sizes, and anything else the Range Officer designates as a target.

Competitors lose points for hitting “no shoot” targets (hostages, friendlies, etc) or skipping targets / obstacles. Their score is augmented by the time it takes to complete the course of fire. The person with the combination of fastest time and best accuracy wins.

What do you need to compete?

The basic materials are pretty simple. All you really need is a rifle (.223 or larger recommended), a shotgun (pump or semi-auto) and a pistol (semi-auto or revolver). Generally, rifles are semi-automatic however if you want to use a lever-pump-or bolt action you can, any shotgun 20ga or larger will work, and a 9mm or larger pistol is good to go. If you want to come and shoot the match with just your .22s and a shotgun - you can do that too. If you do not have the firearms you need to participate, we do have club guns that can be used during the competition. You will still have to provide your own ammunition and pay regular match entry fees.

Youth Participants:
There will be ammunition, firearms, and Range Officers provided for youth (younger than 18) to shoot a designated "youth" course of fire. This will be provided free of charge to any youth who wishes to participate. Should someone under 18 wish to shoot the adult course, they will need to have parental permission, provide their own ammunition, pay the entry fee and demonstrate that they can engage in the full course of fire SAFELY.

Final:
Thank you all for your help and participation. This event has been structured for maximum safety and fun - we have done what we can to keep the cost as low as possible (this is a not for profit event) and to reduce any barrier to participate that doesn't affect the safety of others. We hope everyone can come out and have a good time in the sun after the first week of school. It will be a good time to meet old friends, make new friends, maybe learn something new and have a GREAT last hurrah before hunting season and fall are truly upon us.

I look forward to talking to you all very soon.

Bummer, I'm already committed to a 2 day match in Granum, I gather this is not being organized by Jim T ? Nick, you can use this as a warm up for my match in the Hat on the 14th Sept.

Knowing Jim he has a hand in it, I just personally don't know the extent. Dave is the go to guy for this one. Dave, Jim, and I all stated we had "considered" doing one this year, so Al told us to gets our butts in gear and figure it out! So it would seem that Dave did that, as I haven't done anything about it!

Too bad you're not able to come shoot, but hopefully I'll see ya in the Hat the next weekend. Planning the date we tried pick one around IPSC matches and MHRRC matches, but you can never seem to find a date that doesn't have some sort of a conflict, so you sometimes just have to pick one and go with it.

Very interested as Lethbridge is pretty close and 3 gun has me intrigued. I've never attended a 3 gun match but I've been observing from a distance for a while now. All I have is an Springfield M1A and a Glock 21C. No shotgun...yet, though I've been eyeballing some suitable 870's on the EE. I see in the OP that a rifle "223 or smaller" is needed. Is that a rule or a suggestion?

My request for days off from work have been submitted. My fingers are crossed! I have been waiting too long to shoot a match in Lethbridge.

Sorry, that's a typo it should read .223 or larger. In reality anything smaller than a 50 would be fine.

I kind of figured that but didn't want to assume anything. With that said, I will make an attempt to join in on the fun. A few questions if I may. What is required for 12 gauge loads? Is jacketed hand gun ammo permitted? Are there any considerations for rifle ammo I need to know about?

Good questions!

No. 5 shot or lighter for 12ga

For rifle and pistol ammo, Jacketed, plated, lead, doesn't matter so long as it's not steel core. This includes steel jacketed. If the bullet sticks to a magnet it's no good.

I just realized something. I'm not Black Badge. I'm guessing one needs to have their Black Badge in order to shoot a 3 Gun match. f:P:2:

Nope. Black badge is not required for the Lethbridge or (Medicine Hat 3 gun match, Sept 14th)

You'll need the black badge for any of the sanctioned I.P.S.C. shooting events.

Yes I'm aware that the black badge is necessary for IPSC and was assuming one was required for sanctioned 3 gun matches as well. The Lethbridge and Medicine Hat matches are fun shoots is that why or a black badge is just not required period for any 3 Gun Match? Thanks.

What is the match round count for each type of firearm? Hoping I can make it down, I have never been disappointed with any of the matches that I have attended in Lethbridge.

There are no IPSC sanctioned 3gun matches in Alberta at this time. None in Canada as far as I know.

It is a club match, so while the BB course is beneficial it is not required. We do follow the basic safety rules of IPSC though. No finger on the trigger when not engaging a target, and keep the gun pointed downrange, no breaking 90. There will be a safety orientation the morning of the match.

That has yet to be determined. At this point bring 2-300 of everything and you'll be fine, actual count will be lower, but right now I have no idea.

ROs and VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - for the upcoming 3 Gun Event in Lethbridge

ROs must be at the range Friday Evening for Course Familiarization and may shoot the course then if desired.
Volunteer Range Officers able to oversee stages all day Saturday will be exempt from the entry fee.

Many other volunteers are needed to help with stage setup, registration, stage disassembly, etc.

Please note that ROs must be LFGA RO, but we can certainly use help in other areas.

Please PM me or email me at lfga.community.relations@gmail.com directly if you would like to help by volunteering or are an LFGA RO that can help.

Cheers Scott

Don't let lack of gear stop you, if you're not too proud of what you shoot I'm sure between members and the club we can help you out.

I think I have you on the list already! :). Thanks for sharing your 870 , as you know too there are club guns as well and my girls are shooting youth so an adult can likely share their gear. Knowing our club one could show up empty handed and as long as they could scratch up the entry fee and ammo they would be good to go!

Ahh, ok understood. Forgive my ignorance. I have shot some informal IPSC matches and I'm familiar with many of the rules.
