Just got my hand on a Sako Finnlight in 308 Win.
The plan for this build is to end with a lightweight setup.

As far as optic I am unsure about what is good.

The rifle will be use at max 300 yards on moose and deer.

What you guys do recommand ?

I have my eyes on the Swaro Z3 in 3-10 x 42 at 12 onces. I'M thinking the smaller z3 too 3-9 X36.

You hit it on the nose.
I spent an hour and a half on a Saturday last spring comparing optics. I looked at Steiner, Swaro, and Zeiss. What i rolled down to was a similar set up to you, except mine is a lightweight Steyr Mannlicher. Same distance (or a bit less).
Since my distance is not super long, and i was looking at decent quality optics, i settled on a 1" tube, which made the first big step in weight reduction. Then i ran through each comparing clarity, distortion, light transmission. The Steiner and Swaro were top in optics, by my eyes. The Swaro, however, was a featherweight compared to the other two. The Steiner was a brick, and the Zeiss in between .

You are smart to go light, and the Z3 is a perfect fit.

Hey Mush,

The Z3 would be an awesome choice for a high performance lightweight scope. I personally got to shoot long range with a customer's sheep hunting rifle, which was a Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker with the fluted barrel and carbon fiber stock in 300WSM and he had a Z3 3-10x42 (BRX reticle) on it. It was a dream to shoot, as he had a muzzle brake put on and we were shooting steel at just under 1000 yards with a 10x power scope. The clarity at that range was pretty incredible and the sub-tensions of the reticle were very accurate. Also, the whole gun weighed in at just over 7.5 pounds. I would say the Z3 with the 42mm objective lens would be an awesome choice for optical performance while keeping the weight down. If you would like to chat at all about options, please feel free to give me a call at 1-877-547-6873 and I'd be happy to talk with you on the subject.

IMO those are the two best choices. I'd avoid the BRX reticle as I find it too fine for low light. The BRH is a better choice for hunting if you are going to hunt in poor light (as in early morning and late evening). Also, for shooting out to 300 yards max I would just get a plain reticle.

I'd been toying with the idea of a Swaro Z3 for a few days, and seeing the recommendations for them convinced me to try one out. Late Feb can't come fast enough...

I pulled the trigger for the 3 x10 x 42 in the Plex reticule. I'll post back my appreciations.

Nice choice on the scope, Mush. Having used the Z3 myself, I'm confident that you will be very impressed with the quality of the glass they use in their optics. I hope the set up works well for you. Let us know how it goes when you get the chance to use it a couple of times!
