Let's say for arguments sake I have an aquaintance who has an unregistered Czech Mauser (not that I do, or that that would happen) and he wants to sell it to a licensed PAL holder.

Can it happen? What if anything has to be done?

Someone will have to claim it as theirs and register it. It should probably be you. The CFC will require it to be verified and the process can all be done online.

You'll get the cert in the mail and it will be transferrable.

That gun has been in your continuous posession since 1998, right? (for arguement's sake). Of course, who's to know, really? I can't remember how long I've had my car, let alone every gun I own...

I just got done registering a 10/22. Be prepared for a long wait for the cert my friend. Mine took 6 months and I think that was quick compared to some of the other CGN'ers who are still waiting for certs.

I have applied for three firearms to be registered.

One took two months, the other two have been 6-8 months in the system.

It can be done.

I thought there was a deadline or some crap that if you didnt reg your guns by then you were screwed they took it away and sent you a laugh o gram.

Or maybe that was Berlin in the 40's?

So if you were one of the guys who failed to reg a gun you can still do it, without being raped by the gun gestapo? :x

Legally, the guy who has the gun now, and has had it since 98, has to register it prior to any transfer. And in order to register it he has to have a PAL and be liscenced for the class of firearm to be registered. Transferring an unregistered firearm is an offence.
There is an unnoficial amnesty where you can still register the unregistered, for both restricted and non-restricted, but you will have to have it verified first, and then submit the registration online, or you can also send in the form JUS998E. The form can be printed from the CFC website, or your local firearms officer can help you on this.

The big quandry though is there there's no way to know exactly WHO was in posession of a gun from 1998 until now because it's never been registered ;) I guess it's a "scout's honor" type of thing...
