Hello all,

So I just purchased a Ruger Precision Rifle when it went on sale for 50% off a few days ago chambered in, yup you guessed it, 6mm Creedmoor. It has a 24” 1:7.7 twist barrel. This is my first 6mm rifle and from the bit of reading I did before purchasing the rifle it looks like a nice long range round, albeit a bit of a barrel burner compared to say the .308. This will be a target shooting rifle pretty much exclusively so I’m not to concerned about making hunting rounds for it. I am an amateur reloader as I am still very new at it but I am confident enough to buy dies and reload for this guy.

What projectiles and powders are you guys finding work well? Any suggestions for better performance? What should I know about reloading this guy? Any and all advice and tips is very much appreciated! Thanks all.

For the 6 creedmoor think h4831sc, gives better barrel life and you are not giving up that much in velocity department. For long range target think 110 smk or better yet 115 dtac. You should be able to stabilize both in I get them to stabilize in 1/7.5 you will have to shoot a few to find out. Nosler makes some great bullets that hold together well. When I can get them Matrix bullets makes an out standing 120 g 6mm bullet that's a great choice, I have shot a few bears with it. On a final note get lapua brass, it is some of the better 6mm brass

The way Beger Hybrids shoot I would try them in the 105 as well as the Berger 108 is super easy to load for.

H4831SC
H4350
Sierra 110 (may not be 100% stable, they advertise a 1 in 7)
Berger 105 Hybrids
115 Dtacs
Definitely go for Lapua or better yet Alpha brass

I've used with good results :

H4350, H4831sc, H100V, RL16, RL17, RL19, RL22, RL26, IMR 4451, IMR 4955, W760, Viht N560

108gr Hornady ELD or Berger 105 Hybrids will not disappoint

I use Alpha brass mainly but have had excellent results with factory Hornady ammo and Federal Gold Medal, so their brass can't be that bad :rolleyes:

Thanks guys! My usual path is to buy a few boxes of factory ammo to shoot while I track down dies and wait on shipping and all that, see what shoots well and then proceed with that as a starting point for what projectiles to use. Then I re use that brass for reloading until can can afford/find good new brass like Lapua. I’ve heard Hornady ammo works well and the brass isn’t bad so I was going to buy my boxes of their brand in different weights (if I can find it that is).

Different lot #'s will likely have brass with varying capacity. I'd buy one type from the same lot if consistency is your goal

The 6mm creedmoor and handloading.
Bullet= Berger 105 VLD or Hybrid.
Powder= VV560N and H4350
Brass= Lapua or Hornady
COAL= Jump or Jam, I've foung with about a 7 to 10 though jam works for me.
The BC of a bullet is over emphasized, at 1000mtrs the hybrid and vld (berger) 105 will both group very nicely.
I've foung the VLD to be better for the 8 twist barrels.
