Its getting close to fall in alberta and all the moose hunters are getting ready. Including myself, but what i would like to ask is, where on the moose is your prefrence to aim for? My popular spot is a heart/lung shot, but a friend of mine shoots for the "transfer case", (hump). They drop like a sack of potatoes.
Any reccomended place to go in Alberta WMU 338? I'm not to familiar on this area. Wasent my first choice area but its what im drawn for.:(

no draw this year for me.... :(

but with moose I always go for the lungs, right in the sholder, big target, never fails.

sometimes they go 30yds sometimes they just fold up, but its a sure thing.

There is a thread here from a couple months back about shooting the hump.
I would say its safer to shoot for the lungs, as it is nearly always guaranteed to hit something vital in that area.

Cant wait for season. Sept 3rd - oct 31st is what my season runs for, the early season. Been practiccing with my ole "tree-oh-tree" mk3 enfield. Took 6years till i got a draw, can you tell i'm excited!!!!!:D:D:D:D

I know a guy who always aimed for the hump but he lost a moose last year so he now shoots for the boilder room(heart lungs etc) aim for the front shoulder.

Here's what's under the hump.
P.S. That's not me on the picture!!

well when i was taught of the hump shot, it was more of hitting the front shoulder blade in the hump which is just high of the lungs and to the front. You hit that shoulder blade and the moose is sure to go down. But to me thats not an instant kill. So hitting the vitals is the way to go.

Its just like a spine shot on a deer. I think a little bit of luck is involved.

The countdown is one here in Saskatchewan as well. A month and 8 days till I head out.

To me all a hump shot does is make a big mess! With the calibers and bullets we have available today a heart/ lung shot is the only way to go 180gr. Hornady Interloks out of my .300 Win have worked real well on my last two moose.

A guy at my work says he always shoots for the hump. I'd rather be sure with a boiler room shot, I think. Plus, isn't a hump shot possibly going to ruin the tenderloin? At least with a heart/lungs shot, the only meat affected is the ribs.
