I have a chance to buy one for $200.
Friend "A" says the spotting scopes were not very good
Friend "B" says its a Leupold so it should be half decent
Anyone ever use one?
It will be used on the range and some light hunting
It has the straight eye piece

Don't have one and never seen one. Best guess. It's a good buy. There are lots of crappy optics in that price range. I picked up a Bausch & lomb spotting scope on a good deal. It's fantastic.

Unless the leupold is some Chinese crap I would get it at that price.

Can you look through it before you buy? That would make the decision much easier.

I had one. China made budget quality stuff. I was disappointed. It was worth about 200 at most. Pay the extra for quality. There is nothing good unless you pay triple that price.
Unless you only shoot on sunny days don't bother.

I bought one a few years ago and still have it. It's part of Leopold's "budget Line" of optics. It all looks good and comes with a decent tripod, however the optics aren't much better than the Bushnell 18-36 I had before. At $200 not a bad deal if it comes with all the accessories including the nice case.

I too made the mistake of buying one of these at what I thought was a good price. I'm a Leupold fan and I expected this to be a quality scope. It's not. Very disappointing optics. Perhaps it has the durability of a Leupold riflescope (didn't keep it long enough to find out), but I'm much more demanding of optical quality in a spotter as opposed to a riflescope. This didn't deliver.

Made in China. Quality is on par with other spotting scopes in that price range. Unless you find a super cheap spotter that is "good enough" I suggest you either spend several hundred dollars on a spotter, or none at all.

The $200 price tag seems reasonable but honestly don't expect high end performance because there is a Leupold name attached. These are built to Leupold specs but still are made off shore. If your using the spotter to see bullet holes in a paper target at more than 200 yards you will be disappointed. Remember magnification does not make up for lack of resolution and overall quality. Phil.

i have one i bought several years ago i had assumed it was made in usa being a leupold but i think it said made in korea. the best feature is the nice carry case. i think the scope said made in korea and the tripod china. i was surprised how crappy it was. my leupold 24 power riflescope sees holes in a black bull at 100 m. where the spotter wont. with all the time most of my scopes sit in the safe while my spotter is at the range with me you would think i would have spent money on a decent spotter by now instead of higher end scopes it would only make sense. dont buy it you will regret it . i looked through a nikon and a leica spotting scope both were very good and the nikon isnt super expensive. i would rate the green ring glass far inferior to any of my scope glass.
