Leupold 2.5-8x36mm opinions...

Hi huys,

Just wondering if anybody owns or has owned a Leupold 2.5-8x x36mm riflescope? I'm looking for a lighter more compact scope for my go-to hunting rifle. What are your impressions? Do you ever long for more magnification? Light transmission?
 
I've got one on a BAR. It's compact and every bit as bright as the 3.5-10x40. The exit pupil is actually a bit bigger at 8 than the 3.5-10 at 10 and of course the lens coatings are identical so for once it's an apples to apples comparison. The eye-relief is 1/2" shorter on the 2.5-8 which may not matter at all, or could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on user and application. The 2.5-8 might look better on a slimmer rifle.It might be easier to mount in low rings but that depends on the rifle. For myself, I'm happier with the 3.5-10 which is probably why I have a bunch of them, and only 1 2.5-8. Honestly, it would be hard to go wrong with either one.
 
My Leupold 2.5-8 is the scope that gets mounted on all my "latest favorite" rifles. It's compact, rugged, clear and holds it's zero. The power range is more than sufficient from up close to as far as one should take a shot on a big game animal IMHO.
 
About 10 years ago I had one installed on a 30'06 Sako DeLuxe and I it did the job quite well. It was a very clear scope without any distortion, the quality was high. I am looking to get a new one for my bran new Ruger MkII International in .308.
 
I've had several, they're a great all-around scope. I do prefer the 3.5-10X40 as an all-arounder.

My one issue with the 2.5-8 is the short tube length, it won't fit on a lot of long actioned rifles. Even the 1.75-6 has a longer tube. But if it fits, I think it's a great choice.
 
I love them. Probably one of the best hunting scopes on the market. 2.5 for the thick stuff, and I have shot animals out to 444yds on 8x without wishing for higher magnification. It also looks good on a hunting rig. 50mm bells make some rifles stand out like a beauty queen with a size 10 1/2 melon.
 
I have two of them. (VX III 2.5-8x36)
one on a Sako 75 finnlight and the other on a Rem 700 LSS Mountain rifle in 30-06.
great scope. Great all around scope, light and compact. Grab one! Now!
 
I have a new one on my old Remington 760 Carbine 308. Looks great on the rifle and the optics are good. It's light, short, compact and bright. You can mount them extra low to the gun as well which is nice. There are other great scopes out there but the 2.5-8x36 is a real winner in my opinion!

I have one on a 700 long action with Talley LWs. It fits perfectly. Bight and clear.

Don't overlook the VXII 2x7 as well. It's a nice LW scope. I have three of them.

I have a 2.5-8x36 VX3 on a T3 in 6.5x55, also with Talley LWs. It's a nice combo. Most of my older scopes are 3-9x40's, but brand name aside, I've really been taken by the 2.5-8x's and 2-7x's with the somewhat smaller objectives in recent years. I have a couple 3200's and a Bushnell Legend in the 2-7x configuration. I like them all ... plenty of magnification and light for the hunting I do, and I prefer the slimmer lines on many of my rifles.
