Okay, I can't seem to find a straight answer on this one. Do you have to remove the scope to install/remove alumina flip ups? Some people say you do, some say you don't. How much hassle is it to get them on and off?

they screw in and out like a sunshade no big deal at all just put a set on in 5mins with the scope on the rifle. Also they are very good flip ups. I said I would never pay that much for flip caps and now I have 2 sets after trying them on another guys rifle.

I guess it would yup. I have a a 2.5-8x36mm VX-3 on a Remington model 7 in talley low rings with a #3 contour barrel and I had no issues. My other one is a 4.5-14x40mm VX-3 LR on a reminton 700 with a varmint barrel and medium burris rings with no issues. THere is a way to try and do it without removing the scope but it would be tedius and Iam not 100% it would work.

Nope, the inside of the flipcap spins inside the outer shell. I have 2 sets and both my Leupold scopes clear the rifle by the thickness of a 5 dollar bill

If you are shooting a big caliber your objective bell is too close, you should take a super slowmo of that gun going off and see what happens to the barrel and scope, chances are its hitting. 3mm is absolute mininum for heavy barrels just a thought

Appreciate your concern. I've had all my Leupold scopes (x3) mounted that low using Leupold bases and rings with no problem whatsoever. The first one some 30 years ago on a Remington 270 shot it for years never had a problem. More recently I've put Leupolds on a new Browning 270 Win and a Remington 300 Win Mag with more than 200 rounds through both, again no problem? It's one of the reasons why I'll pay the extra dollars for Leupold
