I have a Remington CDL M700 and a VXII 3-9x40 scope to mount on it. I really like the Dual Dovetail mounts I have on my M70 Winchester short mag but notice that the ring mounts directly above the center of the base front and rear.
The Leupold website suggests that a DD base and matching low rings will fit on my M700 long action but when I set the scope by the gun, I notice the scope will not fit if the bases are like the m70. Do the m700 bases have the option of reversing the base to gain scope forward or backward placement-ie are they like the std mounts?
Is there a reason I should use STD bases and rings rather than DD on the Remington?
Thanks, Bob

I'm almost sure Leupold sells a DD with reversible front.Sounds like you have went to their website and used their mount selector link.I'm sure its listed there.(DD/RVF)
Anyway (Here is a pic of a) Rem long action with DD mounts (non reversable front)Now the scope is a Leupold 6-18x40(probably a bit longer than yours) and you can see it fits Not bad in this set up.
I'm almost sure you can find a dd set up that will work,
but I've been wrong numerous times before!
