I bought my first leupold this year for coyote hunting, I got a VX-1 4-12x40 I like it but it just has one problem. When it is set to 4x and I put my cheak to the stock the eye relief is perfect, but when I go to 12x the relief changes and I have to move my cheakup the stock. I have always bought bushnell before and have never had this problem, is there something wrong with the scope, is this just the vx-i line of scope or is that just a leupold.
I was thinking on getting a VX3 CDS 3.5-10 but I don't want to send that kind of money on a scope that dose this.

That is perfectly normal for Leupold, and that is the reason that I no longer own any Leupold scopes. If other companies can make scopes with a constant eye relief, why can't Leupold?

I only shoot with leupolds and this is how they are. Try setting your scope distance at mid magnification. Then if you go up or down the amount you move to get the eye relief is not noticeable. Just what I found

Leupold has the most generous eye relief in the industry, if your 'Bushnell' did not change optically as far as your eye relief, I wouls suggest that the problem was with the bushy.

Maybe I'm getting older, but I don't remember Leupold variable scopes doing that? I've owned and used a few of them.

I have the Leupold Vari X 111, 3.5 x 10 x 50 AO and have the same problem. Only difference is that with my present set up (extended ring and bases), I cannot bring the scope back further because of the front ring contacting the objective housing. I am working on replacing the bases etc with some kind of rail which will allow me to reposition the scope. Eye relief seems to be fine on 5x but is hopeless on 10x.
