Leupold FX 6x36 vs.FX 6x42?

What are the differences besides the objective diameter? I am really considering the 6x42 as I hear the eye relief is excellent and it has an excellent reputation. The 6x36 is cheaper and that is definitely appealing. Does it sacrifice in eye relief at all? Any drawbacks? This is for a dedicated coyote gun and I think I want the LR reticle. Please only those that own one or both of these scopes please.

i have owned a 42mm 6x. very good eye relief and the brightness was very good. i have looked at the 36mm and don't think there nearly as good. the 42 is a larger scope and may require med rings. either one would work well for you.

I've got both. The FX3 is so easy to get along with that it really has to be experienced. Most people do a bit of a double-take when they look through one.

Mine are both mounted in low rings. For the few bucks difference there isn't any question in my mind.

Ive got a 6x42 w lr on a kimber 84l montana pretty much a match made in heaven light beatiful scope with great eye relief and clarity again as Dogleg says easy to get along with

I've had both,with the LR reticle.On rifles like the Remington Mountain rifle I actually prefer the slimmer profile of the 6x36.It just seems to balance the rig better.That being said I have had no problems with the optics of either scope.I found to my eye the 6x42 was a touch brighter but not enough to make any difference to me. Thanks guys. I just emailed prophet river. What I'm really interested in this scope is the field of view and the eye relief. For my style of hunting(coyotes), I hate having to get my eye in perfect position to get on a coyote when I'm half laying in a ditch or just threw the bipods down in a plowed snow covered field on a dog that can't decide if he wants to leave or stay. Just want a quality, rugged no nonsense scope to get the job done. My 5-15 Legend wasn't too bad but this has been a planned upgrade for a year or so now.
