Hey guys-been thinking a fixed 6X scope would fit the bill, and shooting 22 I like to be able to have the optics perform as they should @ under 50 yards. I recently learned of this scope^, but it's an older model and can't seem to track one down. Have any of you used this exact model? What reticle did it have?

If I don't manage to track one down, any other small/fixed 6X options out there I can use up close?

thanks!

I have three M8-6X but they do not have AO and are not what I would describe as "small" either - I believe they were made with two sizes of front Objective lens - bigger one was 42 mm; these, I think, are 38 or maybe 36 millimeter diameter.

I had heck of a time to find fixed six power scope - ended up with a 6X Mini by Burris on a .17 HMR rifle - it does have AO with markings down to 25 (yards, I presume). For the various .22, I have a fixed four power Leupold Freedom rimfire, and one with the 2-7 rimfire Freedom - for 22 Magnum, one has the older Leupold 3-9 rimfire variable (maybe before Freedom) with AO, and other has a 2-7 rimfire Freedom - they will "have to do". The Leupold rimfire booklets say their 4X and 2-7X parallax is set at 60 yards - seems to work out okay for me, but I do not compete for target scores.

I have several of the Leupold 6x42AO scopes, mounted on air rifles and .22lr's. Don't recall offhand how low the numbers go on the AO ring, but I know they give me a clear image at 25 yards on my backyard air rifle targets. Standard turrets and duplex reticles on both of mine, not sure if others were available.

I also have a 6x Burris with AO and target turrets, fitted with an extremely fine crosshair reticle and Posi-Lock. It's lived on a .22lr for several decades and several thousand rounds, and still works and tracks perfectly. I think it's a 32 or 36mm objective. I don't believe I have ever had it on any gun other than the .22 so not sure how close it focuses, it's set on and used at 100 yards. I don't enjoy it as much as the Leupolds because the fine crosshair tends to be hard to find in lower light against the kind of busy background I have behind my rimfire targets.

For a 17 HMR, I got one of those Burris 6X with ultra fine crosshairs - just too fine to use, except on targets, which is what it might be for - I can see something in grass with my eyes, but simply can not pick out those cross hairs when I try to aim at it. I replaced it with another Burris 6X that has like "fine" Duplex reticle, or whatever Burris calls that - both have AO on the objective - on the one that I use, the markings go down to "25" (yards, I presume) although the thing will turn some more, past that.

You could extend your search a bit to include the FX3 fixed 6 AO, which is the model that replaced the M8. Being newer they have best lens coatings that were ever put in those models and is well worth a few extra bucks on the used market. They are great scopes, with eye popping clarity and huge eye-boxes. They're really easy to get along with. :)

Another thing you can consider if you can't find an AO M8 or FX3 is to get a fixed AO and get the parallax reset to rimfire distances. Korth used to do that for about 15 bucks, and likely still does at some price. It actually isn't hard to do yourself for that matter. Good luck in your search.

Update-after finding one of these (AO) and trying it on the weekend, I really like the thing. Mine has a duplex reticle, I remember talking to someone who said they came with a tapered reticle as well? Going to see if I can find one of those?! :)

My son was going to go to the range with me a few months back, and then bailed on me at the last minute. I still had his .22 loaded in the car so I brought it and decided to do some shooting. He has a Lakefield with a fixed 4x Simmons scope. I was surprised how much I liked it for 50m and in. I have my Keystone Outlander that I wanted to scope and had considered a 6x too, but was concerned about hunting applications with the 6x. I figured a 4x would be better for that. I ended up getting a Simmons mag 22 4x scope, so far I really like it, good field of view, perfect size reticle and it's very light (8.5oz) which puts it in the same boat as much more expensive Leupold 4x scopes. Something to consider, seems like the perfect rimfire optic to me.
