What is the reason for this scope being so much less thank the mark 4 tactical?

According to the Leupold site its a 30mm tube, see some of the specs below.

thanks!

Product Highlights
The mid-range magnification levels, tactical matte finish, and target-style adjustment dials of the Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm PR Long Range make it a favorite of law enforcement departments. Its side focus and 14x high magnification level allow it to really reach out to considerable distances. Index Matched lens coatings enable it to provide a very clear, very bright image to the user.

I've been competing with Leupold scopes for over 10 years now. Since the evolution of the Mark 4 series, the VariXIII series were matte finished and then they expanded the VariXIII line to accomodate the 30mm tubes and used the target knobs with the 3 x 1/16" set screws.

Then they started calling the 3.5 X 10 x 40mm version "Tactical" back in (can't quite remember now) 1998?? Afterwards this model was renamed the Mark4 PR , as well as the VariXII 3 x 9 x 40mm, that became a Mark4 PR , too.

Help me out here if my information is not accurate.

It seems that the Mark4 M1 and M3 (different knobs entirely) have become the LR/T series or MR/T series.

My best guess is that it's all about the marketing end of things, the rebranding, I mean. I compete with Leupolds on my operational sniper rig, my counter-sniper rig (building a 6.5 x 284) and my Service rifle rig. All of them are either LR/T or MR/T versions. yeeeeeha....

Hope this helps,
Barney

The 4.5-14 x 40 appears to be the only one in the series with a 30mm tube and it is tha same scope as the VXIII long range, except with high target turrets (not 'M' series) and mil-dot reticle.

The nice thing about the 4.5-14 PR LR is that it has a 40mm objective. Paired with the 30mm tube, you can mount it really low. Send it to Korth for M1 or M2 knobs, and you've got a pretty decent scope for tactical style work. I've got one with M1s and a Gen II mildot from Premier, and it's the cat's a$$.

Does Jim Korth has a website?I googled him and only got reference directories.

I ordered the scope and it should be here today. I am interested (For the future) in TMR and Knobs just wondering what pricing will be.

cheers,
Craig

Called them, FWIW I was instructed they do not work on the M4 series of scopes (she said no one is licensed to do so in Canada). They only work on the VX series for modifications. :(

She recommend Leupold USA, like that'll be easy > : (
