Leupold on a slug gun?

Good news, I had bought the scope, a Leupold VXlll 1.5x5 to mount on a BLR .22 but come to find out it is next to impossible to find 30mm rings that will mount to a dovetail receiver. I could have drilled/tapped and mounted a standard base on the Browning but instead I mounted an illuminated ( red/green recticle ) crossbow scope on the BLR and now I have the Leupold with no home.

I an planning on buying one of the new bolt action slug guns, Savage 220F, Deerslayer or Mossburg possibly, and thought that might be an excellent place for the 1.5x5...but never having had a scope on a shotgun before...wasn't sure if a 'dedicated' shotgun scope was needed.

By all means scope the slug gun of your choice with any decent quality scope in
the power range that suits your game. I use a Nikko Sterling 4 X on my H&R Ultra
Slug Hunter with 1 1/4 oz. full bore slug loads. The scope is holding up perfectly,
and at 50 yds. this gun can hit golf balls with ease. I would go with the Savage
220 over the other guns because it's more accurate out of the box.

I have a Savage 210F bolt action 12gauge, with a rifled 26 inch barrel. Mounted on her is a Leupold Ultimate Slam 3-9x40mm with SA.B.R reticle. I have practiced lots and tried many many different rounds in her.... she is a beast and shoots a particular slug very very well and at 250 yards.. I can keep 3 rounds inside a 4 litre milk jug. But it needs a slug about 1900fps to do it. Won't shoot a deer at that range.. But at 175 to 200 I will.
