Just wondering if you guys in the larger centers are seeing any movement on the over-inflated prices on Leupold scopes with the high Canadian dollar these days? I'm looking at picking up a couple of MK 4 tactical scopes and I'm wondering if it would be worth my while to go through all the hoops and paperwork to legally import them from the US to take advantage of the far more attractive US pricing & the high Canadian dollar. I figured I'd stay in Canada if I could find the models I'm looking for and the price was within $200.00 of the US price. However, in almost all cases, the Canadian price is $400-$600 more than the comparable US price!

Lots of good deals on the internet for new Leupold scopes. Used prices will have to come down if guys want to move them.

Hey HeadDamage,

Like I said, I'd prefer to support Canadian dealers, but when you're talking a $500.00 price difference.... So far it looks like Wholesale Sports have the more reasonable prices, but they still aren't great. Any tips would be appreciated!:)

X man,
You could try Darcy Bowyer in Maple Creek, Sask. I just bought a Mark 4 6.5-20 x 50 from him this weekend, he beat Wholesale Sports price by over (edit: never mind the number, but it was a smoking deal);) A lot of his prices are looking pretty good against American dealers now.

As our inventory of Leupold scopes gets depleted and new models are purchased at lower prices we will offer that reduced price at retail. We are a major Leupold dealer and probably inventory more models (including Mark 4's) than almost anyone else in western Canada. We are at least at Wholesale Sports pricing (or less) at the present time. To be honest the biggest problem has been keeping enough inventory in stock to support the current demand (which is high now even considering the current retail price). Phil.

That is the one thing we have to remember. The dollar has surged in a few weeks but these stores have taken inventory based on pricing early this year. It will take time for the merchandise to adjust.

Unfortunately, our super strong dollar is not going to stay for very long so suddenly prices to the retailer goes up but everyone wants the prices of the strong dollar.

Tough gig to be in Phil.

Darcy's got pretty much the best price on everything. Including ammo. Bowyer's Outdoor Sports (306) 662-3267. It would be worth it to call and ask what he's got. He's a really good guy.

I had a chance to get a wholesale price from the US on a leupold scope. It cost me $420 tax included. Up here the same model is $849.99+tax. As long as Canadians are willing to pay, retailers will continue to double the prices for guns, optics, and accessories.

I would like clarification of your above statements. At first you say that once your current inventory is depleted, your prices will adjust downwards with new inventory. You then go on to say, you can't keep enough inventory to support demand. That all leads me to believe that you should already be offering the new, lower pricing. Please explain, as these two points seem to contradict each other.

Actually our retail prices have come down 10-15 % over the last year. Some models sell very fast so we we replaced them right away and the retail price reflected this but other less in demand models took a little longer to sell out. We use a staggered mark up on Leupold products with the higher end models marked up at less of a percentage than the less expensive ones. We are one of the largest stocking Leupold dealers in Canada and carry a wide and deep inventory of product so it takes a little while to deplete some models. I feel confident in saying that we are matching most Canadian retailers who carry larger inventories of Leupold products. I know that a small dealer may order one scope and mark it up at 10% and beat our price but we can't work on that margin and keep large inventories in stock. Phil
