I would like some info on the Leupold QD rings and basses. Are they any good, do they hold there zero when you remove them. Is there a better system available.

I have Leupold QR bases/rings on 5 guns, a Browning T-Bolt 22, and 4 Remingtons 700's a 223 VLS a 257 Rberts Mountain, a 25-06 CDL and a 7600 rifle in 35 Whelen.
They are a strong mount, easy scope-on/scope-off, return to zero well and work pretty neat in switching scopes set up for the same gun.
There are stronger I'm sure, but they've worked well for me. No complaints.

I have had a set or QRs on a Winchester M70 for well over 10 years. It started as a 300Wby, and the QRs worked perfectly for about 600 rounds. That includes alot of testing (playing) taking the scope off and putting it back on, even for every shot in a group. They return to zero.
About 2003 I had Bill Leeper rebarrel the rifle to 358 Norma. Since then it has seen another 4-500 rounds, and the QRs are still going strong.
They are a good system period.

Leupold QD rings
I use leupold post type QD rings on my 7mm rem mag and Leupold Weaver style QD rings on my 416 rem mag. scopes have been off and on both many times and they always return to zero. for the very large magnums I prefer the weaver style for strength but both are very good

Leupold offer two types of quick release bases (actually three). The two popular types are the QR and QRW. I've used both. The QR uses a post and cam concept, the QRW uses Weaver bases. For hunting, I find the return to zero quite acceptable. However, I had to return my QR type mounts because the cam lever began to rotate a full 360 and would no longer lock down. They messaged me and informed me that they were 'worn past repair'. At my request, they were replaced with the QRW type.
So, in my opinion, the QRW type are more robust.

I have two sets of the QR so I can switch my leupold scopes on a 300 win , rem 700. They are excellent IMO for the hunting I do, going from close up use with a 1.5X5 to a longer range 4.5X14. Return to zero at 200 yd. target is pretty much spot on.
