leupold rifleman vs vx2

On a 2-7x33 or fixed 4x32 is there any real difference in visual quality between the two? The rifleman has more eye relief than the vx2 hence why I'm looking at it. It's to be mounted on a 458wm
 
i can see a difference between my 3x9 rifleman and a 3x9 vx2 for sure but its not huge.. rifleman to vx1 no difference. even at that the rifleman is good enough for hunting. i put the rifleman on a 7mag a few years ago with intent of changing to a better scope if i kept the 7. the combo shoots so well i never bothered o change it out. i have mostly vx2, vx3 and minox and a couple of 4200 eletes and i don't mind the rifleman at all. its a little harder to set at the range but once set never moves.
 
Yeah, doesn't the rifleman have 1/2 moa click adjustments? Versus the 1/4 moa adjustments of the vx1/2 series? That would make it slightly harder to dial in at the range, but I have one on a .300winmag and it has stayed rock steady for 300 rounds. I think it only took me 14 or so shots to get the reticle on the bullseye at the range, and I've never had to think about the rifleman since.

I think the Rifleman has 1/2" friction adjustments like the old Vari x II. Pretty sure they (Rifleman and Vari x II) are basically the same scope but with a new name and a bit of an updated finish.

The VX2 is the superior quality of the two, but it also has a lifetime guarantee, allowing it to be repaired or replaced by Leupold if there is ever a problem. The Rifleman does not.
 
Given that you intend to use it on a very high recoil caliber (.458 WM), I would be tempted to go with the higher quality of the two, as it might withstand recoil better.
 
I have both, and a vx-1.

The VX-2 is better, period, than the Rifleman and a tougher product if you're putting it on a real heavy hitter, but the Riflemans are still pretty tough.

It IS more expensive, obviously, though. Riflemans are good scopes for the money and better than the Elite 3200's that are priced very near them, are are more of a "direct competitor", as compared to the VX-2, which is a higher level scope.

Buy whichever you can afford.
