This is my first encounter with Leupold.

My brand new VX-iii 4.5-14 40mm scope with varmint reticle has finally arrived. To my surprise the scope has no covers included. I sent an Email to Leupold to enquire about this situation and received a reply in 3 hours:

"No lens covers are packaged with the VX-III 4.5-14x40mm scope.
Leupold does offer accessory Alumina Threaded Lens Covers for the VX-III
scope models. At our website, www.leupold.com click on Hunting &
Shooting, click on Accessories and click on Alumina Accessories for
further information and details. The Accessories may be purchased
through your sporting goods dealer or a mail order dealer."

This is the first time I purchased a Leupold scope, also happens to be the most expensive scope I purchased, that doesn't provide covers. All Bushnell Elites, 1/3 of the price, come with covers.

I am speechless!!!!

I've encountered that same situation with all my Leupolds, except the Mark4 lineup. You are right, they are expensive enough.

Kinda reminds me of my son's mountain bikes... at around the $ 1500 plus price point, the bikes don't come with pedals since they expect anybody who buys at this price range to have their own specific clip-on pedals.

Their Mark4 scopes come with Butler Creek flip-up sourced, but Leupold marked covers. I guess many people seem to agree that this is the best solution or at least the most agreeable brand / type of scope cover.

Anyways, maybe Leupold will listen to us ?

For the cash you paid you should have got covers and a hottie in a french maid outfit to make you breakfast in bed for a month!
Now as for the amount paid this is where I get stumped. If you shop in the U.S. you can expect to pay...
Leupold VX-111 4.5-14 varmint--$599
Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16 target dot--$479
We are talking about $120 bucks here. Why is there such a large price difference once they pass the 49TH?
Sorry for any hijack, just scratching my head.

true north:

I compare the VX-III to my Elites 3200 4-12, 3-9, 2-7 or 10X. Very little difference between 2x or 3x the price. The point is Leupold doesn't provide a set of lens cover.

Common sense, I think, to keep dust of the lens for storage in the safe and during transportation. I have the Blizzard covers for all my rifles use in the field. However, for bench rifles I just use the standard covers, as I am not in a hurry to take them off and would have a place to keep them.

Well, until I get a set of Blizzards, the Leupold will have to wear the Bushnell covers. Well, after paying 15% GST+PST plus admin fee, I saved $250.

There are a few different models of this scope available (all with varmint hunter ret). None come with covers but they should. Which model did you go with?

55275 - 30 mm, side focus, $679.00 USF
61125 - 1 inch, AO, $599.00 USF
57165 - 1 inch, no parallax adjustment, $579.00 USF

If anyone is looking for the 55275 I have one in the dealer EE.

I got the 57165. The lens is very clear throughout the magnifications and light transmission is extraordinary. The varmint reticle is very fine and suitable for small objects. I will wait for the rings to be aligned before mounting it on my T3 Varmint.

SuperCub: Read my original post for reply from Leupold.

To my knowledge Leupolds (other tan some Mark 4) have never come with covers. This is a marketing decisiom by Leupold as I believe they think most people will probably replace the originals anyway so why waste the time and money. I too am suprised by this but it hasn't seemed to make any difference in sales...no one has refused to buy a Leupold (yet) from us because it didn't come wth covers.
