I am putting together a Custom Classic Cooper in .17 HMR and I am thinking of replacing the scope I was initially going to put on it which was a Bushnell 4200 4-16X40 and going with a Leupold of some kind.

Any recommendations? Can I see pictures of what you have on your gopher getters? Thanks

They make two specifically for rimfires and the one I put on my late fathers 22mag is a 2-7 and it improved the groups significantly over the cheap scope he had on it. It was around $300. They make a 3-9 as well for rimfires but I seem to recall it is $500. +

All of my rifles wear Leupolds, also have a 2.5-8x36 on a Ruger 22Hornet

Those are some really nice scopes!!! I am surprised that you don't have as much magnification on the hot centerfires as I would have thought. Are you happy with the magnification or do you want more?

Any recommendation for a .17HMR?

Here's my favorite scope for a Cooper rimfire. We sell a lot of them. They have the AO , which is important, and you can really see a gopher well at extented rimfire ranges. Also, they don't look too big on a 'sporter'. Its a VX-II 6-18x40mm. This one is on my 22 lr at top. There is also now one on the 223 AI shown under it.

The 4.5-14x40 on my 204 came off the 17HMR I sold. Just the right amount of magnification in the gopher fields. I am going to have the B&C reticle changed for the varmint reticle at some point. The 6.5-20x56 has the varmint reticle and its great but 6.5 is to much magnification for the time when the little buggers pop up 10yds away. 20x is great for the really long shots though but on your .17 I would do max 14x with a Varm ret or fine duplex

I picked up a FX-II 6x36mm from Prophet River and sent it to the Leupold warranty depot to have them adjust the parallax down to 60 yards. It's really fun because it's basically point and shoot.

That a really nice and compact scope for the amount of magnification you get. Very nice:rockOn:

Personally I prefer a smaller scope on a 22. My fav is the 3-9 EFR Leupold, but at over $500.00 I don't have one on all of my 22's. Instead I went with several of the 2-7x28 Leupolds. For the money I think that Weaver offer the best bang for the money, I think their 2-7 is like $`199.00.
Vortex is supposed to have a fine product, but I haven't seen one. FS

I've got a Leupold 6.5-20x56 VX-L on my Cooper. Either low or medium height rings (can't recall which), alumina flip covers, and a scope level. I've been thinking of selling the scope, so PM me if you're interested Bulls-eye.
