Leupold Vari X III

I have a chance to deal on one that is in excellent condition...3.5-10x40 AO...what are optics like as compared to say a VXIII or something.....it's an older model scope with friction adjust turrets,..any opinions would be great.....

I have owned some older 2.5x8x36 and 3.5x10x40 vari xIIIs and all had click adjustments.If it is a vari xIII it must be quite old.As such it will not even have the multicoat 4 lens coatings.As such it will not be as bright as a vxIII or a newer vari xIII or even a new vxII.

unless it is like $300 or so, Id just go and buy a VXII 3-9x40

it wont be that old the vx series is only two season old....and varix 3s are still on some store shelves....

It must be over 10 years ago that the Vari-X-11s got click adjustments. If that is a Vari-X 111 it would have to be real old. Unless you can get it for next to nothing don't bother. Your money will go farther on something a little more current, even a VX-11. Better coatings, click adjustments and all that. Yesterdays treasure isn't necessarily today's bargain. Course if you already have one thats a different thing all together.

According the Leupold information section...the scope is about 22 years old.
The fella wanted to do a swap for a Bushnell Elite 4000 that I have...I think I'll pass....thanks for teh help fellas...greatly appreciated as usual
