Leupold vs Nightforce

I am talking about a VX-II or VX-III. I don't see a reason to pay $2000 for a NF for a hunting rifle.

The original post was asking about MK4 and NF scopes.
I saw nothing about the lower end hunting scopes being mentioned.

Until you pay $5 or $6K for a dedicated LR hunting rifle. That is no time to cheap out on optics.

Nor should you as the NF are not hunting scopes. They are target scopes. And once again for the money they are among the better options.

Says who? Seems to me that I use a NF for hunting, Rick, blackcloud, LRC and numerous others use them for hunting. Even Nightforce themselves advertise their scopes and certain reticles for "Big Game Hunting" and "Long Range Hunting". If you choose not to use one for the hunting you do, that's your business and quite possibly the right choice. But to make a blanket statement and say that they're not hunting scopes sells the product, a product of which you are a dealer, short.

You are right with regard to their quality though...they're a fine option for anyone who wants top-end glass - regardless of the shooting application.

I see your point. And for sure agree in this kind of situation. I guess my comment should have been re-worded to state that I cannot see the need to spend that kind of money on a $1000-1500 rifle. To me, a lower priced Leupold would suffice.

Maybe I should look into a NF for my Weatherby's

The NSX is nicer in many ways to the Mark 4s ( the more common Tacticalized VX-3 ...the original MK4 fixed power are very different form the new style variables...but in all fairness more expensive as well )

First, you have a zero stop option. The only zero stop you get with the Mark 4 is when you use a M3 type turret but then the adjustments are far more coarse

The clicks are more positive in the NSX ( nothing like a S&B PM II however ) than the Leupold M1 turrets. The side focus has less lash as well

Generally the NSX has significantly more elevation adjustment 110MOA vs 65MOA. The only exception is the real original M4 fixed 16 Power that offers a zillion MOA. You may not need that much but at least its there

More recticle choices. Option to have Miliradian turret with matching MLR recticle is pretty nice. Both have FFP versions so thats a wash

Its easier to adjust illumination intensity with Mark 4 but having said that I never play with the intensity of my NSXs

I have lots of Leupolds but the price of the Mark 4s are creeping up to what a NSX is. I think for the money there are better choices out there ( not only the NSX but also the IORs )

In reality however, both scopes are far better than most of the typical scope you see at the range / field

I think one of the 2.5-10x with the 32mm objective would make a pretty nice all around hunting scope but $1675 is a tad steep for most people.
