like the title says, would this be a good choice on a marlin 45-70 guide gun? I don't think the 75yd parallax is a problem, I anticipate most of my shooting between 50-75 yards

I had one and they are excellent scopes. Very compact and rugged! A good choice for a 45-70 guide gun.

I'm pretty sure that Johnn Peterson has that very scope on his Guide Gun. As a bonus, he reports that his #### has yet to drop off.
If you're only shooting 50-75 yards a skinner peep sight would look very good. Not sure on your eye sight or ability. But my eyes aren't very good. When my scope broke on my guide gun I went to Skinner's and will never put another scope on it again
I've had one of those (shotgun version) on a Guide Gun for several years and several hundred rounds with excellent results, and recently moved it onto a nice old Mauser in .458WinMag. Not many rounds through that one yet, but so far so good. The heavy duplex fits my intended/imagined uses very nicely.
