Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 - Gone?

I am looking for a VX-2 3-9x40 scope for my hunting rifle and it would appear as though they are now unavailable everywhere I look. Did Leupold discontinue the VX-2 line altogether? I see the VX Freedom line everywhere, however I am unfamiliar with that line and I don't want to end up with a scope that disappoints.

Can anyone offer some insight into new Leupold scopes and what would be on par with the VX-2 or slightly better without having to sell a kidney?

The VX-1 and VX-2 lines have been replaced by the VX-Freedom. VX-1 body with VX-2 internals and coatings.

If the new VX Freedom scopes aren't your thing keep an eye on the EE as VX-2 and VX-3 scopes are on there all the time and as Leupold scopes have a lifetime warranty you are good to go. Just be careful with your due diligence as there are Leupold counterfeits out there so have the serial number checked out by Leupold.

VX3i 3.5-10x40 can be had on sale for $499 at times if you keep your eye out.
