Hey all,

Just wanted to ask, asthetics aside (I find the Vx nicer haha) has anyone ever noticed any actual differences in use? Is the Freedom a sharper image at all with the supposed upgrades? Is it any more durable? Any reasons to prefer one over the other if lets say price was the same?

I have VariX II, VXII, VX2, VX3i, and VXFreedom in my locker. The VXII and VX2 had a huge improvement in clarity and most significantly was the increased eye relief over the VariX line. As much as I like the few remaining VXII and VX2 in my locker, the Freedom line has some amazing improvements in clarity and the glass appears on par with the VX3i line and nearly as nice as my Swarovski and Leica optics.

Thank you Duncan! I appreciate it! Having only the Freedom on hand, I cant compare.

Cheers

Several Leupolds here and I believe the Freedoms are superior to anything from the VX-3 down. Better glass (brighter and more clarity) and improved tracking.

From my comparisons in low light, I've found my only VX-2 (a recent one, 2017 or 18 I think) to be about the same as the VX-Freedom. Leupold claims that the Freedom glass is the same as VX-2. Presumably they were referring to the last few years of VX-2 before they introduced the Freedom.

Can't disagree with any of the above, but as usual, get behind one if you can and see for yourself. I prefer the VX2, but I'll admit that it's mostly vanity.

I'll add that the couple of VX Freedom scopes I handled felt cheaper to the touch, and that adjusting the turret and magnification ring felt rougher.

Agree 100%

I have a couple of freedom scopes, I will say the optics are very good for the money but my only complaint is the adjustment turrets have a very mushy and not very positive feel to them, that being said though they seem to hold zero, I guess they have to cut costs somehow.

Ive had both side to side. Freedom is clearer and brighter. Turrets on both "suck", but I can forgive it with how light they are and how you only zero a rifle once. Not meant for targets!

Leupold scopes have become "set and forget" scopes in my opinion. I use BDC reticles, "set and forget" and they will hold zero as long as you do not "touch" anything.
