I did some test today on my Leupold VX5 HD 3-15. usually I shoot with magnification at 9. When dial up to full power (15), it appears the point of aim moves 4'' NW of my group.

test process:

first 3 round group, scope magnification set at 9. group size: 0.5''
second 3 round group, scope magnification set at 15. first shot landed 4'' NW, then the last two shots landed at the same position as first group.

has anyone had similar issue? or is this an anomaly? I didn't want to irritate the neighbors too much, so I didn't make further tests.
anyone has a solid test procedure?

Now I understand why people put up with NightForce's price and weight.

I would suggest you mount the scope in a fixed mount screwed down to a bench or similar, doesn't have to be fancy, just needs to be solid. And do a tracking test at a fixed range, maybe 50 yards. Use a big white card with graph lines drawn on it at half or 1" spacings, centre the scope on the centre of the graph, and then walk it up and down a fixed number of clicks and record if and where the crosshairs move to. Most scopes move a tad when using the zoom, many dont, many remain exactly where they were centred from 1 power setting to the next. If you scope does track close to perfect then the problem lies in your shooting, not the scope.

And its a rare occasion when a VX5 has an issue - if it does, then Leupold will see you right, cos a VX5 is a bloody good scope.

I had the same idea, the problem is I can't find a solid base to mount the scope. I tried wooden bench, they flex quite a bit. I don't have a concrete post to mount the scope on. So I guess I need to do more shooting, when I get a chance.
I really hope it's my shooting or the new brass. I love the design and the glass of VX5.
