just curious which is better, in the eyes of gunnutz everywhere.
i am think of the 4-12X40 models, as they both seem to be near my price point.
btw, i currently use a b&l elite 3000, 3-9X40, but am looking for a little more zoom and something new and shiny
thanks

I really like my Bushnells and never had a problem with any of them ...even the one that is 15-20 years old! I beleive you can't go wrong with either scope. They both set up shop in Canada which makes for educated buying, since we live in Canada. The only 2 scopes I would buy! (for new purchases when paying retail....I would buy something else if the deal was unbeleiveable)

Go and take a look at both scopes and buy the one you like!!!

Bushnell is heavier, and has less eye relief than the Leupold, optical quality is not a lot different between the 3200 and the VX-1. IF you have warranty issues, Leupold wins hands down!! Leupold is prompt, and classy when dealing with their customers, plus, no matter how many hands that Leupold has passed through, the warranty stands. I have a lot of scopes, including a couple of Bushnells, but for serious scopes, I buy Leupold. Regards, Eagleye.

I like the Elite's rainguard, but for clarity and eye relief any of the VX series win hands down. Just a little bitty on the warranty, I sent out a 3 month old 4200 Elite for warranty work in June, its still not back. I send out a Leupold Rifleman and had it back in two weeks from the date they recieved it. This alone makes the decision a no brainer.

A 3200 is has better mechanics than the VX-1, and is hell for strong, as far as the optics go I don't see a whole pile if difference between the two, although I have talked to some that say they are better in that regard as well. As mentioned, the 3200 is heavier and has less eye relief than the VX-1. If you are close to the U.S.,(I didn't notice your location) they both retail for $199 U.S.,so it really is just a simple matter of preference. My preference is for the 3200.

I hunt alot in the rain.....and I mean alot. That rainguard on the elites is awesome....and nothing wrong with the optics

Last year my 3200 rain guard became frosted in cold temperature (-20C).

Rainguard may be good for rain, but definately not frost proof. I trust my bottle of Nofog for hunting now.

Optics are OK on the Bushnell. If you give me the choice, a will choose the Leupold anyday.

I bet if we as gunutz put together 10 different scopes and we could not see what brand was which (from 100 to 2500 dollars) it would cause such a fiascle, and I beleive that most of us would seem lost as in placing them in order from most costly to cheapest! That's an article I would love to read in a rifle mag.

I was at Big Bass....and I had a hard time from a scope that was 5X as much as another.......I thought the cheaper had a better picture! this was a scope approx. 5 times cheaper!!!!

I beleive like I said before you cannot go wrong with either scope. but for someone to trash one or the other when they are so very close is IMO.....crazy lets do the test!!!!!

Same thing happened to me not to long ago.

I told the sales guy who was selling me on the attributes of the more expensive scope that I was curious - the less costlier scope had a much clearer, sharper picture. He told me I had them 'adjusted wrong' and didn't have the same power on both scopes. OK, I told him, set them up for me and handed them back. He looked at both and sheepishly realized I had them set the same. He looked through several times astonished at my find.

Needless to say, I walked away disinterested in what he had to say.

On occasion you can find some gun store staff that know what they are talking about and selling. Unfortunatley most are salesmen with little real world experience. I got a kick out of a young pup in a lower mainland store telling me about a Riflemans ability as a night vision scope, since it was made by Leupold and thats what they do!:)

Scopes

Definitly the Leopold over the Bushnell. Optical quality may be the same but you are forgetting that the Leopold will hold up to recoil alot better, have sent many different scopes for repair, Burris, Nikon, Bausch & Laumb, have never sent in a Leupold for repair. When you are ready for a shot of a lifetime you can depend on Leupold, from personal experience.

I have the VX-1, the 3200, and the 4200 they all work very well and have never had a problem with a bushnell scope. I can say that I never had a problem with my VX-1 either but I have only had it 1 year or so. I have had bushnells for 15. I am in the market to change my Bushnell buckhorn 3X9X32 which is 15 years old for another VX-1. I will say that if I find a good deal on a 3200/4200 I definately wouldn't rule it out though.

PS the buckhorn works fine to this day....That's why I am in procrastination mode when it comes to taking it off the gun!

Seems to me that more than one GUNNUT is happy with leopolds cust. ser. Which may be a factor to consider. I have only had contact with bushnell 2 times and both were my fault. Also neither contact was due to a broken scope, I lost my turret covers one time and ??????I forget the other.

In my dealing with them they were excellent to me!

i've yet to look at any instore, as i'm just starting to consider the purchase.
but, as to the difference between a 100 and 2500 dollar scope, i have seen the difference.
i was shooting my old rifle(m700 bdl 7mm rem mag) with my current 3-9x40 b&l 3000, when the guy next to me asked if i wanted to shoot his rig.
it was a 700bdl 7mm rem mag with muzzle brake, but it was his scope that interested me, it was a zeiss diavarri with a 56mm(?) bell, but i can't remember the magnification.
man, that was like night and day, with the zeiss, you didn't even notice the eyepiece ring, it was just like a clean circle!
to be honest, it was beautiful!

I hear you...but I bet any 30mm scope with 56mm glass would make your 1" 40 mm scope look like ####! and your B&L is years old at this point! Newer always looks better!!!

I am not saying the Zeiss was not superior it probably was! From what I have experienced...that extra 10% better optical quality (whatever it is) shouldn't equate to $1000's more.

You can drive a more expensive car than a Honda or Toyota.....But quality does not increase with price. I beleive that in many cases it actually goes down. (I am an engineer in the automotive industry[who's on a long vacation until I finish my MMA carreer]).

IMO a scope in the VX-1 or II 3200/4200 category is all you really need. I have never had any quality issues with any of these caliber scopes. Again this is my outlook on the subject, if I had problems I would probably think otherwise, until then I see no need to buy a scope greater than a Elite or a VX-1 or 2.
