Leupold VX-L scopes

Anyone here have a VX-L scope yet ?

What's your take on these ? are they worth the extra dough over the VX-III line ?

FUGLY. I've handled one and looked thru it. The idea is good, but your scope can only be mounted as low as your rings and bases allow. IMO not worth buying. I think they'll disappear in the near future.

I also have looked thru one and like the idea that you can mount a 50mm scope as low as a 40mm..... when looking thru the scope you do not see anything different then a normal scope.

I think for people that need the extra big objective lens this is a great option.

Of course for the price, you could simply choose to buy a scope with higher quality lenses and coatings, and have just as bright a scope that is lighter and more compact..

The prices that I saw on the VX-L models were not under a grand.Unless they have gone down as the scopes become easier to get.

I got quoted $1400 for this scope New Leupold 6.5-20x56 VX-L 30mm Riflescope.

and again, a 56mm scope that mounts with MEDIUM rings is well worth the money to me.... the equivalent 40mm in luepold is $1000.

the hunting scopes I waas told where between $1000 - $1100,,, still well below what a zeiss, kahles or swarvoski costs

That isn't less than a grand ,but it is fairly close,if those prices are correct.I was able to purchase four swarovski 3x10x42 scopes for $1150 each over a year ago although the full price runs around $1400.Theses scopes are just as bright as a vxIII 3.5X10X50 and the VX-L actually has less lens area due to the cut out. They are also lighter and more compact.

Um...........higher quality ?? I am guessing.........even without seeing one........you'll be hard pressed to find a better coating than Diamondcoat.

UM

if a guy likes a big scope, and wants to stick to the ugly theme, the VXL is a good option

make mine a 40mm Obj though

We have had nothing but positive feedback on the VX-L models we have sold. We currently have the 3.5-10x50 and 4.5-14x50 in stock with most reticle patterns. They start at just over $1000. All VX-L's have diamond coat lense coating and (I believe) an argon based gas instead on the nitrogen normaly used due to the higher heat aound the bottom of the scope. We also have a 4.5-14x56 long range in stock...first of the 56mm delivered. These scopes might not be for everyone but if you want a large objective scope that mounts low then this might work for you. Value is a relative thing and only the end user can decide. We have several people waiting patiently? for the 6.5-20x56 varmint scopes to arrive.
