I purchased a VX-R 2-7 last year and I am very happy with it. The glass is great and the Firedot reticle is a bonus. I am looking to buy another Leupold and am considering the VX-2. There is about a $200 price difference so if the VX-2 has the same quality glass as the VX-R, I will just buy the VX-2. Both scopes appear to have comparable specs on the Leupold website with the exception of the firedot. Anybody have any comparisons to offer between these two scopes (illuminated reticle aside)? I am most concerned about the quality and brightness of the glass. Is the VX-R more comparable to the VX-3 than the VX-2? Thanks for your input.
