Im looking at buying a Leupold VX2 4-12x50 Canadian with the Cds dial. I have never bought any Leupold scope other then a VX3. Are the VX2 s worth the money? What is the real difference between the VX2 and VX3. Are they as tough as the VX3? Who has one and what are your experiences with Leupold VX2 scopes?

If your using it for hunting it nice to get a 50 for the obvious reasons.Ring choice will be more important trying to keep it as low as possible.Go for it.

IMO, you dont need the 50mm. They sit up too high IMO. I have all Leupold 40mm OBJ scopes on my rifles. Some of the older Vari-X III's, one-VX II and a few VX III, and two of the VX3's on my Sako and Tikka rifles.

My VX II 4-12x40AO with LRD duplex on my Sako m75ss 243 is a sweet setup.

I would say you would be very happy with your VX2 4-12 scope.....same "toughness" as you mentioned as the VX3

From what I gathered, the new VX2 line is similar or above the older VX III line. Go onto Leupold's website and you can do a good comparision b/w the VX2 and VX3 lines.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, It going on a 257 roberts so it wont get beat to hell with recoil. As was mentioned it might be hard to mount it low, but I think Im going to give it a shot and see how it works

For me, cost between VXII and VXIII was not an issue ... I chose II's because they have a cleaner, more compact look and have as much optical quality as I can use/justify. They are absolutely as tough as the VXIII's.

Nothing wrong with the superior optics offered by Leupold's upper end scopes and by quite a few other manufacturer's, I just find the VXII to be more than enough to meet my needs. I have 5 of them at present, and all are mounted in either Leupold Low or Super Low QR rings/bases. I've had them on 22 rimfire through 35 Whelen and 45-70. Currently have a VXII in 2-7 on my .257 Roberts M700 Mountain. Five coyotes with it this winter ... the furthest about 275yds. I find it to be more than adequate at 7x for coyotes and hunt deer with it set at 2x.
