looking for a scope for my marlin 336, looking at 2-7 variable scopes and have settled on these two, seems like leupold offers better light transmission and is lighter, while the vortex has a bigger field of view which may be good for tracking a running deer (I think), now the only issue I see is price difference, and the fact the my current vortex (viper 3-9) seems to be very picky about eye placement, as in if you have to be in an exact position to get the "sweet spot" where there is no black ring visible.., so im worries about that

anyways...Opinions?

Leupold and done. They're known for their huge eyebox and very forgiving eye relief. FOV of all my Leupolds has been fantastic, always more than I've come to expect from other brands. The glass is excellent, even my VX-1 had great glass. Vortex have a habit of breaking a lot, Leupold don't. Both are backed by awesome warranty but Leupolds turnaround time is much faster. Not that you'll likely need warranty work on a Leupold. Go with the proven winner, not the marketing genius.

The Leupold lineup really starts to shine with the VX-2 scopes. Very clear glass and the scopes adjustments are tactile and spot on. After using several VX-2s and VX-3s I'm sold on Leupold.
