Looking to find a suitable scope for a .17Hmr. Is this a decent choice, for not too much money? (Thinking 3-9 X 40mm)

Just curious if the VXII is far superior, and in what way. I don't really want to spend the money on a piece of junk when I could have spent a few $$ more and gone with something much better. But if its decent, I dont really want to spend more than I have to.

Never really see anyone talk about the VXI. Any thoughts?

I had a 4-12x44 (simmons 44mag) on my 17hmr, and personally would have preferred more magnification. Will this be for targets or just hunting? 3-9 would be fine for hunting. If I were you I'd look into the redfield revolution, its supposed to be VERY similar to the VX-1, except its $100 cheaper.... I was planning on buying one in 3-9X40 for my coyote calling .223, but ended up finding a VX-II second hand (NIB though) locally for $350! Sorry I can't comment on the VX-I vs VX-II.

No problem, certainly don't mind other suggestions beyond Leupold.
And it will primarily be used for gophers, but I will be shooting targets as well.

Thanks.
