Leupold

Outstanding scope. Excellent for hunting. I have used one with target knobs retrofitted for Service Rifle competition.

Just picked up a Leupold vari-x 3 ..1.5-5 ....need some feed-back ..short scope ..value and reliability ..

thanks for looking

My favourite hunting scope. I've got a couple on various rifles. A little more magnification might be nice in some situations, but 4.5x (the actual magnification) will handle the vast majority of situations.

What are you going to put it on?

I replaced the crapped-out Scopechief IV on my '80 vintage Marlin 1894 with the above mentioned Leupold and I couldn't be happier. Light, compact, clear, dependable, and all the magnification required for the 44 Mag.
It took me a while to find one on the EE and I had been kind of watching for a couple of years before the Scopechief gave up the ghost. They never stayed listed for long at just about anything under $400 but I do think that a fair price for the Vari-x vintage in excellent condition should rest in the $350 range.

That should work perfectly. If you are so inclined you can have the reticle changed at Korth for a small fee. I have one with the Heavy Duplex on my 416 Rigby and one with the standard Duplex on my 257 Weatherby (I know, I know). Heavy Duplex or German #4 would be good in the bush or, if you get really out there, you could slap a B&C reticle in there to give you better ability to shoot over longer distances.
