I know I asked this same question a few months back, but maybe things have changed since then...
Does anyone know if Hornady has, or will release the Lever-evolution bullets for hand loaders?
I have a .44Mag Carbine I would love to try some in.

See what happens...

I sent an e-mail off to Hornady, asking if they will be available. Don't really expect an answer back anytime soon.
Well at least probably not what I want to hear...

Will post what they have to say here...

From the FAQ's on Hornady's web site:

Q: When will you have LEVERevolution bullets available for sale to reloaders?

A: The demand for our LEVERevolution ammunition is so high, that every single Evolution bullet we manufacture is sent to the ammunition plant to get loaded as ammunition. We don't anticipate availability of component bullets for quite some time.

And something else that might interest you about 44 Mag:

Q: Why don't you make LEVERevolution in 44 Mag, 357 Mag, 45 Colt, for lever guns?

A: Unfortunately there isn't enough length from the end of the cartridge case to the cartridge overall length to build a bullet with a decent ogive that would actually improve performance.

Probably not what you wanted to hear.:(

Not really. But I guess they have a good enough reason.
If they wont work, they won't work.
But then if they can build them for the .444 Marlin....?
But I suppose thats why they get the big bucks.

In a 444 Marlin the portion of the bullet that can stick out of the case up to a maximum of 0.354" and with a 44 mag is up to 0.325" according to the web site I found on cartridge specs. Not too much difference so I am not sure why they can't do it either.

I sent this email to Hornady, about a month ago....

Subject: LEVERevolution Bullets

To Whom it may concern.

I am wondering if the LEVERevolution bullets will be available to hand loaders anytime soon?
I would be looking for 240 grain bullets to load in my Marlin .44 Rem Mag carbine.

Please let me know if this will be a reality in the future.

Here is their answer...:(

There are some liability issues that we can control if we load the ammo, so our thinking is that we will not be offering the bullet as a component.

Thank you
