Well i havnt had a great week, lets just say that.... but its gota get better, im sure.
i finally got to get out an on a hunt this afternoon with the 375 winchester, aiming for a Fallow doe, to mount an make some sausages out of for summer!
i set up for ambush 2 hours or so early of dark, sat there for about 15 minutes and made a move, i just cant sit an wait unless i am in a hot hot zone..
its private land i hunt regularly , but it also gets pressure on weekends so can throw the deer out a bit from where i do see them mid week when i drive past or through.
i went with the wind for a good few k, to hit another edge of the fringe, in doing so , glassing and stalking along a farm track in the bush, it was off to a poor start , by not looking long enough an moving off, i spooked a mob of about 5 fallow, does n fawns...
up an over the hill they went further in to the bush... you will see some of this bush soon.
so i stayed low an scooted further around the ridge to eventually get a good wind an move up into the bush they went... very shortly spied one taking off infront of me where the wind swirled intto a gulley.. good sign perhaps.
climbed up an looked great, looked good for ambush had i not spooked those earlier ones in to there..
i pushed on, i found some carcass , fairly old... of fallow doe.
Within a few moments i caught a glimpse of a Fallow coming out toward the grass land contouring above me, with my wind cuttin up an away , i raced up higher an sat down beside a tree and watched them contor across the bush an end up just 35 meters away!
You wont believe it- but in messing around, gettin the deer in frame an not wanting it to leave frame, I rushed my Shot.......
video shows it clearly over the top into the dirt behind (i dug the cast projectile up)
wtf.... so close. just not my week.
has a smoke an waited for a follow up...
wondering where those deer would of went an what il find when i got there i came across one of the most heaviest sambar Activitys that ive come across in a long time.... looks like im a month late....
the stag should be still aorund with the hinds (i later spooked about 5-7 on dark walking out lower)
will place a camer here soon..this week.
nice wallow!
sign galore!
i snuck in an soon spied a younger sambar eye balling me as they do from thick bush.... no need to take her so watched n waited incase of a stag trailing...
blackberrys cracking an crunching across the gulley mayb 150m away an out steps another one
by now its gettin darker an the peep still has 15 monutes or so of light left..... but no stag is seen just deer moving all around me!
i bcked out an ran into more deer across the gulley where i walked in, a sambar too but she fed off quickly not allowing any photos in the fading light...
almost back to the gulley bottom an fence line back into private from public land parcel and honk... 7 rumps all depart...
think i found a hot spot.
il be back LEVERGUN an all......
