Hey folks,

I am in need of a 'smith who specializes in Lever action rifles here in Canada.
I have a new lever gun which has serious issues with the trigger/lever jamming up. So far the warranty shop has not been able to fix the problem. Of course being US made I can not ship it to the manufacturer for resolution and the shop I bought it from won't take it back. This getting out of hand.

I'm not going to slag the maker or the warranty shop on here, just looking for a shop that specs in levers. Any shops that build/tune Cowboy Action guns?

Thanks

I don't think there is anything particularly mysterious about the actual functioning of a lever gun that requires you to find a lever action specialist. Your biggest problem at this time of year is that most of these guys are very busy fixing broken hunting rifles so you might have a bit of a wait. I've had very good service on a number of projects by Dave Jennings (250-577-3244) in Pritchard BC, give him a try.

Cactus Jack at Shooters Choice is into SASS .

Buddy had his stuff done at General Gun in Windsor.

Thanks folks,
I'll give them a try.
I didn't think there was any mystery to the workings of a lever till I ran across this issue. Somehow the lever of a brand new gun is apparently bent. It has been realigned under warranty, took it out to test fire, two shots and the lever/trigger group seized up again. On examination, the lever appears to be bent out of alignment again after being worked twice. Factory ammo only, no reloads ever fired. Rifle has never been dropped or abused etc. Problems surfaced from the first shot and have gotten worse. I have had this rifle for 9 monthes and still have yet to get 30 rounds fired. Purchased NIB. Something is not right with this gun hence the thought "Maybe it is time for a lever spec "smith." It was bought as a hunting rifle, Cowboy Action request spec is because it is a lever gun not for comp. so it will end up in the hunting repair line-up wherever it is sent. Won't be hunting with it this year I guess.

You could try RUSTY WOOD TRADING COMPANY ( ww w.rustywood.ca) in Mission B.C.. You could phone and discuss your problem. Out of curiosity what make of firearm?

Why on earth we can't send guns made in the USA back across the border for repairs or warranty work is crazy!! So much for free trade:mad:

Marlin 1894 44 Rem Mag. All the more concerning as they normally build a quality product. I spent over an hour on hold to Marlin today, never did speak with anyone. Would nice to discuss this with them. Did they have a bad run of parts????? Recall????

I would like to get this sorted out as it is otherwise a nice rifle. And accurate, it puts three shots into the same hole at 50 yards when I get it to go bang, with factory open sights/ammo.

I have already done the "I'm pizzed off" thing. Now it is a puzzle that needs solving. I'll try calling the various shops recommended as well as the warranty shop again and Marlin, hopefully I will talk to them anyway.

Evening,

Been away for a couple of days. Thanks, I have visited the marauder site many times, lots of good lever stuff there.

I figured out the issue finally. Took another long look at the lever in particular. It appears the lever has bent, spoke with the warranty shop and thay are going send me a new one to put in. Conclusion it seems is that the initial tempering was a) not done or b) not done properly. Either way, it has caused significant problems and not a little frustration trying to figure it out.
One more thing to add to the list of "What the heck is wrong with my rifle?" when things are not working properly. Hopefully this is the end of this saga.

Later all and have a great hunting season.

wow. the warrenty center just bent the lever back into place ? what a crappy center. they should have replaced the lever. im guessing they arent the "licenced" warrenty center for the manufacturor. call the manufacturor and ask them who their warrenty center is in canada and send it there.

Actually it is one of the places that Marlin told me to contact. The only other one they mentioned, no one ever answered the phone and no voice mail, website etc.
FWIW, they are sending me a new lever now.

Thanks. I'm still waiting for the lever to arrive. Suppose I should give them a shout pretty soon. Have heard that it may take awhile for the part to be shipped due to new State Dept rules. Frustrating to say the least.

Definately try out Rusty Wood he has worked on a couple of my firearms.

I am extremely happy with his work I even had him tune up my Marlin 1895GS 45-70 that I carry for bear defense.

After he worked on it I have never had a failure of any kind with it and yes I trust my life with this rifle.

Check out my avatar I have the Marlin in my hands.

I'll be doing just that regardless of the arrival of the lever. I need to trust this rifle as explicitly as I do my other firearms. FWIW, his website is quite interesting. Sounds like a shooter/gunsmith who knows leverguns.

Have emailed rusty what's the best way to get stuff to him. Canada post really worries me.
