Lever Gun Takedown Conversions? Any Canadian Gunsmiths that are doing this?

Gents,

I searched on the Forums and could not find anything in regards to this, but search words may or may not have been correct for what I am looking for.

Are there any Canadian Gunsmiths out there that do a take-down conversion for Marlin lever guns? Wild West Guns in Alaska does one for the 45/70. They call it the Co-Pilot. Importation, modifications, then exportation is the problem that I foresee though.

I'd rather find a 'home-grown' alternative.

Thanks

I don't know about the Marlins but I saw a winchester model 1886 that Ralph Martini did. He is moose hunting this week but might be able to help or give you a name. google martini firearms for his contact info, and post some pics and details if you get the gun done sounds like a great project. good luck jed

Thanks for the replies. I will look into both Martini and Jennings, and post the results if I get the job done.

It is a Guide Gun that I am looking at having done.

Martini advises they do not do this conversion, and Jennings says he does not either.

Are there any other gunsmiths out there that would perform this conversion?

Thanks, but the key word was conversion. I have a Marlin in .45/70, it's a great gun, and I want to keep it!

The Savage and Browning are excellent weapons. But I don't have those, and yes, the topic would be redundant if I did!

Dlask used to show a lever action take down on their website. No idea if they still do it.

I'm into the big levers also, I was looking all over for various things, and there are so many people doing it in the US, that I would prefer to just buy one from the US. 250 to bring the gun in, and you know it will be done right, rather than by someone who no mater how skilled they are, only does a few a decade. It could be cheaper to get the whole gun than to have the conversion done, because I noticed that some people in the US who are well known, do it for less than others. So you can get the gun into the deal, and possibly do better than if it is done up here. Plus, if you get it done in the US, probably has better resale. However, my impressions are largely based on customizations, and caliber conversions.

Thanks Pepperpopper.

I was leaning towards the same train of thought. The most well-known being Wild West Guns. I have a couple of really nice Marlins that I had hoped to use, but it would probably be easier to just get refurbished takedowns imported.

They used to have a Winchester on their website as an example of their conversion work.

OP give Dlask a call and see what they say? Perhaps if a group of people were interested in break down Marlins a savings could be realized.
