Buddy of mine just told me that Hornady came out with a new bullet for their .30-30 LEVERevolution line, so I went to their website to check it out.
If what they say is true then I am impressed. Just wondering if anyone here has any first hand experience with this round?

I find 140gr to be too light. Even though there can be some reasonable to good accuracy, I'll always opt for the 170gr with the greater energy. I gave up on light 30-30 rounds two years ago. They poke holes in the right spot, but have less than desirable effects when hunting, compared to 170gr bullets. Who cares how accurate they are when they don't have the power for take down? chasing wounded animals is not my idea of fun.

I agree with you that chasing wounded game is absolutely no fun. I do however have to disagree with you about the on game performance of sub 170 grain .30-30 loads. The 150 grain Power Shok load by Federal has worked very well for me over the years, and more than one Whitetail has fallen in its tracks after I "poked" it with one.
However we were not discussing .30-30 loads in general, but rather this new 140 grain Hornady load. In their on-line advertisements they claim 95% wieght retention, and the pictures taken of mushroomed bullets were impressive. But I would prefer to hear some first hand reports, since advertisements can sometimes be a little... errr biased shall we say.

If I want to use them with my 94 I have to change my front sight from the standard one to allow the williams peep to go low enough. Set as low as it can go groups go 8" high at 100 yds when used with the same sight in I use for win 170gr. Good stuff, marlin and angle eject guys finally have a use for the scope capability!!!

Just remember that the monoflex is a monometal bullet like the Barnes TSX and (obviously) the Hornady GMX. In my experience and tests with bullets I can pretty much garantee you that this 140gr monoflex will penetrate deeper than a 170gr cup and core bullet.
