Has anyone had decent luck with the Leverevolution ammo in the Marlin 1895 GG( i have the ported barrel)??

I tried some the other day and while it is minute of deer accuracy(1.75" @100m), its not the sub MOA that i can achieve with win 300gr HPs

Using it in my ported Guide Gun & probably geting the same accuracy as you with iron sights. The one thing I can you is that I never got sub moa with any 45-70 or 444 marlin I've shot or owned. If you get that with your guide gun with 300 grainers, use them & never trade that rifle off, as you probably have the most accurate one built.

I have a Marlin 1895M ,same size as the GG but in .450 and find the 325gr Leverevolution accurate enough for hunting purposes...ie. 2.5-3" group from bench at 100yds.

I have a "thing" for marlin 1895's, 1894's, 336's, and Winchester levers. Some love the Leverevolution ammo, some are neutral, and some will give you 12" groups at 100 yards. From my experience, the Winchesters are the most negative, but most of my Marlins are good with the new ammo.

My .450 GG with the ported barrel will cloverleaf 3 rounds at 100 off the bench. Forget a 4th or 5th shot until the barrel cools.

My .444 with the 22" barrel will do the same.

My 45/70 ported GG, and .444P 18" will give 2" groups for 3 shots.

My 336 30.30 trapper (16.5" barrel) will cloverleaf cheap Federal 150 and 180 grain rounds, but only 3" with the Leverevolution. My other 336 prefers the Leverevolution, and shoots better with it.

ONE MAJOR COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THE EFFECT IT HAS ON GAME AT SHORTER RANGES. With a RNFP in .450, 45/70 or .444, every deer or moose shot with it has fallen over on the spot. Ranges from 10 feet to 150 yards away. With the LR, every animal under 100 yards has run before falling over. The LR ammo has such a higher velocity, and with the pointed bullet the energy transfer is not as good at shorter ranges. In fact, one doe that I shot through the heart at 85 yards had her intestines sucked through the diaphram and out the exit wound in her chest. She then ran over 100 yards and gutted herself as she stepped on her own inards.

I have always liked big bore as it typically drops animals on the spot - and NO, with a properly placed shot I have no more meat damage than with a smaller calibre bullet. BUT, from my experience the LR behaves much more like a spitzer magnum bullet at the closer ranges (unless you go for a head or neck shot).

BTW, this past Saturday, I head shot 2 does with the .450 with LR ammo at 110 yards, freehand. OK, the second animal I must have pulled the shot a little as I hit it in the neck - I didn't expect to get the chance for a second shot.

I love that .450 and consider it a tack driver - especially after doing a cowboy action tuneup and trigger job.

If you have sub moa with a Marlin 1895 keep it and shoot that load. I have owned many Marlin guide guns and Winchester 1894's None of them shoot sub moa. I can get 3 shots in a 1 with my 405 grain hand load from my 45/70 but never sub moa. As for LR ammo I have shot two box's and have yet to see anything that made me wanted to change from handloads. I even shot a box of 30-30 LR ammo off and wasn't impressed at all. On and PS if you want to sell that Marlin let me know I'll take it sight unseen :D :dancingbanana:

marlin GG

anyone have a co-relation between micro grove barrel/ ballard rifling that Marlin uses in the GG and 336. when used with LR ammo or different handloads??

Just shot a 4-shot 2.25" group at 200yds with a Marlin 336 30/30 micro-groove and LR ammo. Both my 1895 45/70 micro-groove and the 336 love the stuff.

i have a 1895 GG in 450 and couldn't be happier with how it shoots. Not MOA (that could be partly my fault too) but tight at 100, 200, and definately good enough for deer out to 300....but you need to know the range. I have it 4-5 inches high at 100, dead on at 200, at 250 its 10 inches low, and then 300 is 22-25 inches low - but still accurate. Has anyone ever recovered at leverevolution bullet? I am curious to know how it performed.
