LF 8X56R Ammo for Steyr M95

WWII Ammo

Just fishing.

I have some 1938 dated 8 x 57 (I think) mil spec in ten round boxes on stripper clips, has the little dicky bird on the headstamps and clip spines. The brass is shiney and looks to have been stored correctly. The stuff I tried has all gone bang with no problems.

But Canada Post will not accept it in the mail. So I don't know how to ship this stuff around.

I'm looking for .43 Mauser ammo, and would horsetrade.

Canpar is the way to ship 'dangerous goods'. I dunno the details of pricing and such through them, though... or even where to go to get the stuff shipped in the first place.

And how much of said ammo do you have...? I like a pack or two for my big 1895 Mannlicher long gun :D

this stuff does show up regularily at gunshows. be prepared for sticker shock, most guys want about $2 per round.

reloading is better, you can load to proper point of impact. the milsurp stuff shots quite high. it is good ammo though. plus you will need the clips.

Hello,

Ellwood Epps had some a while back for about $10 for 15 rounds on stripper clips.

I ordered Brass and bullets from BC Redneck a few months back. It was 43.99 for 100 cases of Graf's Brass (Privi Partizan) and $30.95 for 100 205gr bullets. Lee dies can be purchased from Higginsons Powders.

Best of luck!

Frank

Thanks for the help, guys.

I think I found some pre-rolled, now to get ready to reload it once it is fired.

Here's another question or two. What kind of powder are you using? How many grains? What type of primers?

Thanks again.

IMR 4064 (higher charge than published with my lee dies, i just kept adding powder 'til it shot to the sights at 100m)
WLR primer
graf brass
hornady 205 gr bullet

velocity for my load is just over 1900 fps in a steyr carbine. i have no qualms about going higher than the data lee supplies with their dies.... it appears to be the same as their very weak 8x57 data and the 8x56R has a greater capacity.

fyi, velocity of the milsurp stuff that i have chrono'ed is almost 2400 fps.

here is what deer think of my load:
