LF a new rifle

Varmint/target shooting
Left handed (seems to be the real limiting factor - unless semi)
Range should not exceed 200-300 yds
No reloading

I am not a fan of the .223 cartridge, but given your criteria it is probably the optimum choice for you because ammo is plentiful and cheap. 300 yard shots are pretty iffy unless you are a heck of a shot. You are correct that the LH rifle is your limiting factor. Good luck to you!

If you're left handed you could always look at a NEF, Savage, or a Tikka. The NEF is a single shot and the Savage and Tikka offer left hand models. I'm sure other's do too. I'd look at the 17HMR
.22 Hornet and .223 as good choices.

With your criteria .223 would probably be the best choice.

As for rifles, the two I am looking at for my girlfriend(she is a lefty also) are the Savage 12 Varminter Low Profile and the Remington 700 VSF.

The Savage is stainless with a nice laminated wood stock and the Remy is matte black with a tan synthetic stock from HS Precision.

I am leaning more toward the Savage mainly because it has a faster 1in9 twist barrel compared to the Remy's 1in12. And the accutrigger on my current Savage has been excellent. It is the first rifle I have never had to adjust the trigger on.

I forgot to mention that the Savage VLP is also about $300 cheaper than the Remington VSF.

You can get factory rifles in 22-250 in left hand, you will have to relaod for convenience sake. Great long range for varmints.

I'd say 223; lefties are available, ammo isn't too expensive since you don't reload.

I'd look at a Savage.

I own all three. The hornet is an intresting caliber and very fun to shoot but far too expencive if you don't reload. It is the least accurate of the three, it was the first one I bought. Then I bought a .223 because it was much cheaper to shoot. It is also far more accurate. I bought the .17 last and it also out shoots the hornet, and will hit gophers consistantly out to 150 meters. If I had to choose it would be the .223 because of range, and accuracy.

I'd say to go with a 223, but you'll want a 22-250 for longer range. Trade off is it's hotter so if you shoot like crazy you'll have shorter barrel life.

The Savage should be a fine rifle. I'm impressed with my 10FP-LE2B and I can't see the VLP being a disappointment. I've been thinking about a varmint rifle lately as well...but I go through phases like that.
